Today, I bring you a true crime story I'm willing to bet most people have heard of, but don't know a lot of the background. Is this even a true crime story, though? Was it a crime, or was it an indigenous group of people who wanted to be left alone? Why did John Chau travel to North Sentinel Island in November of 2018?

This story is attempting to put out more information on the background of John Allen Chau, and the Sentinelese tribe.

Thanks again to Alex Perry of Outside Online for his incredible work on this story.

Missionary: “Wanna know Jesus?”
Sentinelese: “Wanna see Jesus?”

The kid shooting an arrow through his bible was a pretty unambiguous statement.

Honestly, just that fact that he started preaching to them in english before even attempting to learn their language or anything about them speaks volumes

Being an Indian, I knew about this Island since I was a kid. In the 90s, a lot of efforts were made to contact this tribe. Even after TSunami, the Indian government wanted to make sure that these people were alright. In the history of the Sentinelese tribe, they accepted the gesture of help from the Indian government twice only. Maybe because It was a woman who raised her hand of help or I should say love. She gave them coconuts, gifts, and some other food items.
.
Some people still blame the Sentinelese tribe for John's death. But the real reason behind his death was his blind faith in his religion. People who never wanted to be a part of the outer world should be left alone. They deserve peace.

Wait. So a child shot an arrow at him and perfectly hit the Bible he was holding? He is such an idiot, they gave him chances. They obviously had pity for him.

This dude could've kept that spear, gone back home and had one of the best Pawn Stars episodes ever, but he stupidly chose death.

Too bad he couldn't see the "Lord helping him" through his dad trying to talk sense into him.

Even tho they didn’t speak the same language. The tribe gave him so many signals that he is not wanted. They reacted aggressively and even shot him. His father was right. He filtered the facts, what he read and heard to make it fit his idea and believes. “I’m disappointed that they didn’t welcome me right away” really showed me that he was absolutely delusional. He wanted to do a meaningful thing but ended up dying a meaningless death. I don’t blame the tribe. Its like a stranger wants to come inside your home. While you tell him to go away, he forces his way inside again and again. They just protected their home

If the people on that island weren't as aggressive as they are, they would have been wiped out long time ago.... We seen and heard this story before.

The religion of self importance. He wasn't trying to save their souls... He was all about HIM being the one to save their souls. It was about HIM and not them.

"and then I disembarked my kayak to show them that I too have two legs." Dude assumed that they were stupid people in need of help...jokes on him.

Why it hard to feel bad for this guy?

1. He knew what he was getting into. This was and still is the world most dangerous tribe (so much that I was illegal to try to contact them)

2. According to his journal notes he was a rather arrogant person. Saying himself that he was mad they didn’t immediately accept him.

3. He was literally risking everyone of there lives when trying to contact them. These people are extremely isolated and their immune system are not strong enough to fight of illness and disease of the modern world. A simple cold could wipe them out.

This guy's attitude reminds me of the analogy of the drowning Christian who calls on God to save him and then in short succession there are several people who offer to save him but he sends them away, telling them God will save him. So then he drowns and when he meets God in heaven, he accuses God of not saving him. God asks him, what he means, he sent several good people to save him from drowning but he sent them away.
That's that guy, ignoring the signs God sent him to leave those people alone.

John: "Was disappointed they didn't accept me right away"

Also John: Doesn't accept how the Sentinelese choose to live and calls their home "Satan's last stronghold" because they have a different culture.

Dude when they shoot at you. That's a universal sign of go away. He should have just backed off and went home.

His obsession with „spreading Christianity“ is almost psychotic to me, he wasn’t in his right mind imo

I felt for the father especially here. A man who suffered horribly under Mao, came to the US and succeeded spectacularly in his own career and gave his kids a very comfortable and safe existence. For him to watch his son endanger and then recklessly throw away his life must have been heartbreaking.

"These people must be in the grip of Satan! There's no other explanation. It can't be because I'm annoying, overbearing, and yelling at them in a language they don't understand."

I didn't want to say that he deserved it until he called their Island "Satan's last stronghold". What a piece of work, he goes into their home uninvited and put their lives in danger, and then tries to act like a martyr when they shoot him. I hope he had a vision of Michael Douglas standing over him in the movie Falling Down and laughing as he died.
I feel for his parents, I really do, even more so because their son died a moron rather than a martyr.

I don't really consider this a murder. More like a suicide.
