The twisted logic of thinking suicide would send you to hell but mass murder could be forgiven over time. The man was a sociopath. That’s a big reason why he came off as so anti-social. He was incapable of caring about anyone but himself. How else could he walk away from murdering his family and lead a normal life?

I was born, raised & still live in NJ. When I was 16-the same age Patty was when she was killed, I was born in 75, I found out about this. Having been raised by my single loving father I couldn't wrap my head around how a man could so cruelly do this to his children. When he was FINALLY caught I was beyond happy & justice for all of them was served. He lived freely for far too long. When he died in prison, again I was overjoyed. A rightful end to a cruel pathetic, evil coward of a man. Kudos to the detectives, AMW & List's former neighbors.

Aghhh.. the good ole' cowardly, hypocritical, and convenient, invisible man excuse. Absolute classic. My favorite part was when he said that if he did the right thing and swallowed a bullet, he'd get an automatic trip to hell, but annihilating your entire family? Nah, can just ask for forgiveness.

Sir, this man is not wearing a tuxedo. It’s just a plain suit. For the time especially for older people it was not THAT far of a reach to seeing a man in suit doing every day tasks.

"Sorry for the tragedy that happened" as if he´d had nothing to do with murdering his whole family.

He actually thought that if he committed suicide he'd go directly to hell? What about murderering his own entire family. What a real peice of sh-t!!

Wait, what happened to Brenda, the wife's daughter by a previous marriage, the one who got pregnant and was sent off to a home? No mention of her. I hope she was able to overcome this horrible experience.

Those "kids" look so old, life in that house must have been hell. I get the feeling that there are many other secrets that died with them.

It's so strange that I grew up in NJ and in the 8th grade when this happened, yet knew nothing about it. Although I could say it was typical of the times in that parents were known to shield their children from terrible things. Thank you for sharing this case. ⚘️

It was found out later, the chandelier in their house was a Tiffany worth $200K, and it would have solved their money problems.

I rember this case so much I was 10 yrs old at the time, it was the worst thing ever, not like now, where your hearing everyday about things like this, Unbelievable how he killed all his kids, wife and mother, Thankgod for unsolved Mysteries caught him, right after it aired a neighborhood recognized him! I live 1 mile next to the houe, it was scary for many years! Sorry meant America's most Wanted! W/ John Walsh!❤❤❤

This man was nuts; his stepdaughter Brenda begged him to turn himself in, which he never did. Brenda Taylor died in 1993, I think from cancer, with very little fanfare in regards to her connection to this infamous crime. Her estranged (not sure how or what their relationship was like after 1972) monstrous stepfather outlived her by 15 years.

The irony of Robert Blake playing the role of a murderer, a family annihilator.

I'm surprised that there's no mention that he had built a new family with his 2nd wife, having more kids with her too. I can't help but wonder that if he hadn't been caught if history would've repeated itself. Scary to think it could have.

The sculpture looks exactly like the majority of men in that age group. You would be able to tell it was him just by looking at the black and white original photograph. I cannot believe he went unidentified for so long

I vaguely remember this!!!! America's Most Wanted was one of the many shows I watched back then. And that bust was AMAZING!!! That artist was amazing in the likeness of John That really impressed me. For John to murder his whole family just because he lost his job, is a cop out!!!! He didn't want his family anymore. He just wanted out and didn't want to go through the embarrassment of getting a divorce and have to pay child I hope the other daughter was able to deal with the loss of her mother. I'm glad he was finally caught!!!! He should have gotten the death penalty!!!! He didn't have PTSD, and he wasn't in an "unstable state of mind" AND he wasn't having a "midlife crisis"!!!! HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS GOING TO DO TO HIS HE PLANNED THE WHOLE THING!!!! So sorry for his new wife and family to learn of his crimes!!!! I don't believe that his strict upbringing made him a murderer and I don't believe that he would have gotten away with it. SOMEONE would put 2 and 2 together and figure out he really was JOHN LIST. And even if he DID get away with it, he wouldn't have when he met God face to face!!!

With or without the publics help to catch him or in life or death he would pay for his crimes.
Thank you mysterious 7 for this video

Destroyed along with the home was the ballroom's stained glass skylight, rumored to be a signed Tiffany original, worth at least $100, 000 at the time (equivalent to $700, 000 in 2022). A new house was built on the site in 1974.
