"...You practiced that in front of the mirror, didn't you."
"Every night before bed."

That chuckle is not from his insanity, its from the excitement and happiness that he let those words out without messing up.

i once performed this monologue as part of a stage drama class (i major in computer science so there's that). watched this clip 100+ times, practiced 500+ times, no even close to how the real v did it. salute to agent smith

V: *Gives the most impressive alliteration-driven introduction to a character that the world has ever seen*
Evey: Are you like a crazy person?

Imagine you are competing in a speech off and then suddenly a guy just throws out v-words you didn’t even knew existed and then it was just an introduction for the actual speech.

14 years later, and I finally understood his monologue.

He actually is a crazy person.

Hmm, well that’s another way of saying: “Hi, my name is V.”

Man do i love this scene, it so perfectly encapsulates V as a character. The dramatic flair clearly paints him as something of a showman, while the grammar and dictionary of vocabulary clearly shows that he is also an intellectual. At the same time his arrogance is portrayed in his talking down to Eve at the start of his speech, and the random laughter and sudden outburst of violence when he cuts the sign indicate that he is definitely a bit unhinged. He says himself that he's "both victim and villain" and that is entirely correct. A chivalrous gentleman, and a deranged sociopath, a hero seeking justice, and a vigilante driven mad, a concerned citizen, and a dangerous radical. V is all of these things, and this scene gives just a small taste of every complexity of his character.

Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villian by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. (he carves a "V" into a sign) The only verdict is vengence; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.(giggles) Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.

The giggle by the end made me realize how much he practiced this introduction and how exhilarating it is to actually use it finally on someone.
