How To Make A Gingerbread House + Free Templates!

It's almost Christmas and that means it's time to build a gingerbread house!! Be sure to download my free printable PDF template for this medium sized gingerbread house with chimneys, a smaller gingerbread house with chimneys, and my mini gingerbread name holders!
This gingerbread house tutorial will guide you through the steps in making a delicious, sturdy and slightly spiced gingerbread that will hold it's shape when constructed, but doesn't feel as though you're biting into concrete when consumed! I also walk you through how to make a beautiful royal icing for both construction and decoration!

INGREDIENTS
Gingerbread:
1.2kg plain flour
500g butter, unsalted
400g dark muscovado sugar
14 tbsp golden syrup (or molasses)
4 tsp baking soda/bicarbonate soda
8 tsp ground ginger
Royal Icing:
500g icing sugar
3 tbsp meringue powder
8-10 tbsp water
The above recipe makes the large gingerbread house, 4 name name holders and a few additional decorative sides. If you'd like to make the smaller gingerbread house, halve all the ingredients above.
