February 1, 2024, will mark three years since Myanmar’s military seized power from a democratically elected government. Following the coup, armed groups have been resisting the military's rule, resulting in a civil war. China, which shares a border with Myanmar, has firmly backed the junta, providing diplomatic cover at the United Nations, as well as trade and investment throughout the coup. However, concerns are growing over the security of Chinese citizens in Myanmar and the future of China's projects inside the country.

China doesnt need to take a side, whoever wins the war in Myanmar would have no other choice but to work with China. So China supported the Junta because they are still the government of Myanmar, and China also supports the rebel groups at the border because they want to secure the border and the ethnic Chinese rebel group has always been friendly, their connection traces way back to the previous Qing Dynasty and Chinese civil war

What a shame to see several medias use the term "rebels". I point out on behalf of the people of my country: we are just resistance groups, defenders of human rights and democracy.

I watched the whole video. The only thing it says about Сhina's role is that it didn't support any of the sides and instead is trying to mediate between them. Which is to be expected since Сhina has a strict policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of foreign countries. Glad to see that Сhina is staying true to its principles while also is actively trying to help resolve the dispute.

When China said it is practicing politics of non interference, it is serious about it. China don't care who rule Myanmar, it is not up to China to decide. China only ask Myanmar to protect its citizens in Myanmar, and Chinese businesses. Any party that violate that, will see that politics of non interference doesn't mean China won't protect its interest when it is violated.

It is very telling that a documentary done by a news channel that calls itself the "South China Morning Post" can only draw on one Caucasian academic and an internal news editor staff based in HK to talk about what they think China's involvement and role in the Myanmar crisis is. Come on, surely you can muster at least one Chinese pundit to give the audience some flavor of how the Chinese see things.

Heck, I think it would be a step improvement if we can at minimal get some political analysts from other nearby ASEAN states such as Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia or Thailand. From what I can see, the western HK guy provided only very basic surface level amateurish opinions so far. Neither him nor the SCMP editor seem to know or care about how the power dynamics that exist between the various armed factions, junta or the NLD actually work on the ground.

You should ask what's the role of the CIA & the NED?

It's not about China's role since it refuses to interfere with other country's internal war. It doesn't matter who China helps, it will create the loser party as China's enemy. Unless Myanmar is being attacked by other country that has nothing to do with the region. Even that, the country in trouble needs to ask for China's help.

I wish the scmp could also elaborate on the rebel groups, where their supports come from. I just wonder.

Why didn't you mention the huge internet swindling groups operzting in the country that cheated Chinese citizens and were arrested by China Myanmar joint operations? Or did you just ignored this matter?

All countries must withdraw investments from America or it takes a risk of being seized simply. Not a fair democratic America.

Does saveguarding China's interests concerning especially these big building projects not get in the way of wanting stability there in Myanmar?
Stability, especially the way I percieved the Chinese Communist Party's view of it, is not possible to be maintained when different groups fight civil wars, but when all people come together. If the Chinese gov. supports different groups in order for said projects to continue, it is understandable. Nevertheless this would thus jeopardize achieving more stability for Myanmar. Also western media say, China also has been supporting different ethnic groups with weapons in the north before. I honestly don't know what to make of that. I really like the effort of Chinese Morning Post to produce this english content tho!

Are the centres "telecom centres" or "Telecom's centres"? ;D The subtitles might be a bit misleading there.
