______________________________________
A jump cut is when you cut out a section of a continuous shot and splice it together. Jump cuts are super effective cuts for reducing time or to indicate the passing of time. But if you use too many, then it doesn't look that great. In this video you'll walk away with several creative ways you can hide a jump cut in your video edit. We use Premiere Pro in this video, but you can implement these same techniques in any pro video editing software you use.

This was really the best video about this subject packed in neat time under 15min. I have learned here from watching and listening more than I could've learned by Googling for hours. Thank you so much Kelsey!

Thank you PGal. As someone who has taught the basics of media production for 25 years I have been dismayed (angered, disgusted, depressed--you name it) by the rise of the jump cut in social media. It's just bad visual grammar, but who cares about grammar these days. Jump cuts can also be indicitive of poor planning. Great tips here.

Dang, I wish I had seen this before delivering my last footage to a client! Lol. I shot an unplanned interview with just one camera but had redundant audio. The talent had to leave right after, and they stumbled a bit while speaking. I managed to cut it out, but it wasn’t my best work. This will be super helpful—thank you!

Using adjustment layer for jump looks like a quicker workflow than making cuts to the clip, and its easer to move around, shorten or lengthen, Good tip, glad i clicked..

This was one of the most informative videos I have watched. Thank you so much for teaching me how to sharpen my videos edit. Editing is truly a learning process.

Lots of great advice. Some creators have so many jump cuts that even alternating through an array of techniques to cover them up makes their videos too busy and distracting to watch. I have blocked many channels with otherwise decent content because it got too annoying. For my own videos, I have decided to be annoying in the opposite way by generally not making any cuts unless I have to for when I receive phone calls, someone is at the door, I sneeze, have to go blow my nose, and several such things.

There are of course viewers, now so used to overedited videos, who think my self-conversational, natural-pace videos are too long and – because I also don't script – have too many uhms, ers and ahs. But then there are also many, like myself, who prefer it that way. It's hard to satisfy everyone.

Yoooo. That bulk audio crossfade is I’m a mix engineer and I do this to songs I mix but how come I never thought about it with videos. Thanks a lot. Subscribed!
