What Makes Airbenders and Earthbenders Stronger?

In Avatar The Last Airbender firebenders get stronger through Sozin's comet, waterbenders gain strength through the full moon but what about earth and airbenders? That's what we're answering today!

Air actually does get a buff if the wind is strong enough in an area like during a storm, the creator of the show confirmed this but said there simply isn’t a air bender strong enough to harness the power of a storm effectively.

In the ATLA series bible, it is confirmed that Earthbenders are more powerful when closer to the lines between tectonic plates.

What’s interesting is that considering that water benders get their power from the moon, and the moon is very slowly (insanely slowly) moving away from earth. That would mean that water bending slowly becomes weaker and weaker VERY SLOWLY over time

My personal headcanon is that their bending also gets stronger in function of altitude. The lower they are located, (the closer they are to the Earth's center) the stronger gravity is, making earthbenders stronger and airbenders weaker, and the higher they are (the less dense the atmosphere), same goes in opposite, which is why Air Temples are built in mountain tops whereas elite or historical earthbenders like the Dai Li or Omashu's founders typically went underground.

Fire benders get power from the sun
Zuko mentions this when fighting Katara at the north pole

Earth actually get buffed by tectonic plate boundaries and stuff like that

it's already been said that earthbenders *can* get stronger by harnessing the energy released from the seismic plates moving. and the same with Airbender with their corresponding natural disasters, such as storms.

The comet is an extra thing that could happen but firebenders can also be empowered by solar flares it's less powerful than the comet but they happen more often

It was confirmed by the creators that Airbending and Earthbending are both effected by related natural phenomena just like Waterbending and Firebending. That is because all of bending is rooted in nature.

Water bending and fire bending are abundant too. Water benders can bend sweat, katara did it in the fire nation prison, its also possible that water benders may be able to bend the moisture in the air and fire bender just need oxygen.

Airbenders gain a buff during harmonic convergence as well when spirituality is greatest.

So the reasoning makes sense cus if they as you say don’t need a buff bc they’re everywhere, Fire and Water don’t need em either, fire can be produced and as we learned through Hama water can be pulled from the air and earth meaning literally everywhere you go you could bend all 4 elements individually (e.g there can’t be a cage that restricts every type of bending without literally removing your bending ability)

What about the Air Temples, aren't they highly elevated making the air in the surrounding areas stronger?

Air-benders get a huge power boost when they can fully detach from worldly desires, like Zaheer. Earth-benders probably get a huge boost from a full Earth (ie all the time), hence Bumi bending with his chin, or Toph being super-powerful by fully sensing the Earth with her feet.

Looking at the elements in our Zodiac Calendar and the seasons associated with the months, I would say Spring is the season of life, so Fire represents that, Summer rid the season of passion, so Water represents that, Fall is the season of change, so Air represents that, and Winter is the season of sustaining, so Earth represents that.

It also helps that the cardinal signs for these seasons, the first zodiac of each new seasons, happens to be in that order as well.
