Meh. If the field doesn't arrest all inertia of the internal volume of the ship too, it would've torn itself apart from the pressure hammer effect of its atmosphere bouncing off the front inside of the ship. Not to mention all components not part of the outer hull. Either the field dumps the energy from 100% of the volume of the ship, everything inside included, or it would tear itself apart from the inside. They *almost* got it right. And no, that dump of a ship wouldn't have the structural integrity to withstand all of its guts maintaining their inertia against the outer hull.
