The NPA is a Nasopharangeyl (SP?) Airway. It is used to establish an airway in folks who have been in a traumatic injury, many patients may be unresponsive, but they could be conscious as well. These are the more updated versions of the old Oral Airways. NPAs are tolerated a lot better and easier to insert properly.

Haha. In the Army we were always told to never insert an NPA on a conscious patient, however I did it done only one. A female Sergeant did it to herself and made it look like it was nothing. I was impressed, but never tried it myself. Hat's off to you, sir!
