Unfortunately, it's like biofuels, the process to manufacture these is incredibly slow and incredibly expensive without much hope of improving either anytime soon. Yes, it is also limited to what it can protect/store, etc. It's a nice fantasy, though.

Shouldn't we be worried about all the plastic waste on Earth's surface that can be recycled before finding new alternatives to make more plastic?
