Heyyy,
I made this video many moons ago, but after watching it a year later, I thought it had some good advice. If you're a rising senior, it is a VERY GOOD IDEA to get a head start on your IA's over the summer.

Anywayyyy, I wanted to give a small disclaimer. If anything in this video contradicts any advice or instructions given by your teacher (or the IB) please listen to your teacher, not me.

BIGGEST TAKEAWAYSS:

Choosing a topic: USE YOUR TEXTBOOK. The word problems show you how to apply the math you are learning and are basically like mini IA's. You can also look up how your interests relate to math (music, dance, social media, baking....). If you are passionate about your topic, it will make writing the IA more bearable.
The best textbooks are:

HAESE MATHEMATICS:

Best HL topic (in my opinion): DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS! Your topic has to be HL or beyond. In Analysis and Approaches, DE's are HL and they have so many real world applications (especially in the natural sciences). Since I love bio and pharmaceutics, my IA was about a biological application of diff eq's. In the IB there are three types of first order DE's you need to know: ones where you use integrating factor method (this is the one I did), separable, and homogenous. If you haven't got to DE's yet but have done integration, it is worth learning them if you find a really cool IA idea.

Breakdown of video:
0:00 Intro
0:52 Criteria on the rubric
1:11 How to come up with an idea
4:50 HL topic that I recommend: Differential Equations
6:37 Breakdown of my IA
8:05 What to include in the Introduction
9:10 What to include in Background Information
12:18 What to Include in Method and Calculations (Most important part)
16:35 What to include in your conclusion
19:01 Final thoughts

I also wanted to include a video that were immensely helpful. This. girl. saved. my. life.

That's it. If you have any questions, feel free to comment down below!!!

Hello sister, I love your IA topic and I hope to do something similar, can I reach out to you to ask some questions? If yes, how I can do that? Thank you so much and I love your video!

Wish I would've seen this before my IA :((((

Hi Marta I really liked your IA topic, and I want to use the same formula for my IA but to investigate another drug. Would you send me your IA so I can see how you solve the differential equation, since I am having trouble right now with it? It seems that all of my values are correct, but I cannot get a function in the form c(t) = te^-t. I would appreciate the help a lot.

Wait- really?? My topic is also similar. I took my passion for K-pop as a guide to my topic and will also be plotting choreographies on a cartesian plane. Although mine is more like a compare and contrast between two different ones :)

Hi Marta, I know you are probably busy with medschool and working very hard. I am super intrigued by this topic and would love to know more about how or where I could get the constant values for a specific type of drug. Since the volume of distribution, absorbance and elimination values are not so clear online or anywhere, I can't seem to find particular values as stated in your method. Also how did you know what were the units after the calculation?

Any links, sources or places to look at would be amazing :)) I really appreciate this video and any help.

this is so helpful rn as I am preparing for my IA purposal...for the differential equation, did you come up by yourself or was it found in some research?
