I hate to have the first comment be pessimistic, but the Paris talks aren't going to make a damn bit of difference. The current capitalist global economy is too dependent on fossil fuels, and maintaining the status quo. The world's corporate elite will not permit the abandonment of fossil fuels as long as they make money from them. And from their amoral profit obsessed point of view, it is more cost effective to bribe American politicians to keep things the way they are, than to diversify into renewable energy. And as long as the republican party, which is wholly anti-science and anti-progress, has any political power, America will not commit to any climate agreement.
