He is is doing what the papers and news companies have always done Take information that the public may or may not need to know about and put it where people can see it. Making money what business does but it is not necessarily the driving force. All governments and people in power hide anything that is detrimental. It is wrong to compromise national security to do this especially when it endangers people. However, If he is publishing information that shows someone particularly those in a position of public responsibility cheating the system that they serve then this information should be published. If that information is obtained illegally, that is a separate issue and should be dealt with accordingly
