In Star Wars The Phantom Menace, during the battle on Naboo with Darth Maul vs Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn, how did Darth Maul lose? Why? He was very powerful, trained by Sidious to hunt Jedi, and literally had the upper hand the entire fight. How could he have lost to Obi-Wan?

While maul had the high ground, obi wan was born in it, molded by it. The high ground betrayed maul because it belongs to Obi wan.

Darth Maul: It's over Obi Wan, I have the high ground!
Obi Wan: *I am the high ground*

Short answer: he got cocky and arrogant and most importantly he underestimated his opponent. Basically the same mistakes every Sith makes.

Basically any ground obi wan touches becomes the high ground.

Well of course Obi-Wan won the fight against Darth Maul.

Because Obi-Wan had the *_famous "High-Ground" coffee blend_* before the fight for Naboo. While Darth Maul didn't.

Obi-Wan HAD to win... so we could have those
"half off at the Maul" jokes.

Darth Maul didn't use the High Ground right.
He didn't say "it's over Obi Wan I've got the high ground"
The High Ground got mad.

Obi-Wan was not blessed with an abundance of medichlorians like Anikin, he had less experience than a master, and he had never fought another force user aside from maybe practice with other Jedi.

Darth Maul had mastered the 7th lightsaber martial art style and used a dual saber. Maul endured the harsh training and torture of his master, Darth Sidious, and had killed Jedi before the fight with Qui-Gon-Jinn (who he also killed) and Obi-Wan.

Obi-Wan single handedly, defeated Maul when Maul had the high ground. Obi-Wan launched his saberless self at him, at an almost a 90 degree zero slope angle, while using the force to call Qui-Gon-Jinn's saber to his hand and doing a twist flip somersault, sticking the landing like an Olympic gold medalist, and then cut Maul in fucking half for his cauterized torso and abdomen to separately fall into a seemingly bottomless reactor pit. He used his downed position to get the jump on a Jedi-master killing Sith assassin.

He went on to train the chosen one only to then utterly defeat him in one on one combat despite Anikin having been born with more medichlorians that innately gave him more power than Obi-Wan. Not only that but Obi-Wan survived order 66 and lived long after it in the oppression of The Empire. When he finally died he did so BY CHOICE and ascended into a force ghost.

He wasn't born with such power, he didn't have as much experience as those he exceeded or defeated, and he never went to the dark side.
So what was Obi-Wan's secret?
The force was with him, always.

I can't be the only one that wants the movie "Kenobi - A Star Wars Story" that tells the story of his years in exile in Tatooine...

Darth Maul lost cause he didn't call "the high ground!"

Ironic really. He could kill other people with the high ground, but not himself.

George for some reason has a terrible habit of introducing a cool character then killing him off immediately its annoying
