The last time I went to China was to Beijing in 2010! This time, I went to Foshan, which is just outside of Guangzhou. It was a pretty short trip, only 2 nights 3 days. This trip consisted mostly of having meals with relatives and visiting a few places for sightseeing.
We stayed at the Hilton Hotel and it was very clean, comfortable, and spacious! They also have a great buffet which we went to for breakfast and I definitely stuffed my face. The first meal we had when we arrived was congee hotpot! It's basically hotpot but instead of a soup/broth, it was congee! It was very seafood heavy, which is not really my thang, but it was delicious nonetheless.
Foshan has changed and developed a lot since the last time I was there as a kid. The city has become much more advanced and aesthetic! There were so many vibey areas that I really wanted to just walk around in chill in. Also, the cars in China are so advanced and fancy looking! I saw many Chinese brand electric cars that looked so futuristic. I even went to a Huawei showroom and sat in their electric car, called AITO.
I also visited the Wong Fei Hung Lion Dance Martial Arts Museum! It displayed a lot of martial arts memorabilia from Wong Fei Hung, Ip Man, Bruce Lee, and other notable martial artists from Foshan or has ties to Foshan. The Lion Dance demonstration was also very notable and exciting. The performance is every day at 3pm I think. There was kung fu, a weapons demonstration, and lion dance. Very exciting to watch!
Foshan has a nice mix of old heritage buildings and new modern buildings all integrated together.
I think 3 days is not enough to see this city at all and I would love to visit again! and also to eat more food! My favorite, this trip, is the roasted squab! it's always been a fav for me!
The big family dinner on the last night was held at the Chinese restaurant at the Hilton Hotel. That huge table that seats 30+ was eye opening and magnificent, the food was delicious and the service was attentive :)
