The John Deere 1025R Tractor and the Kubota BX23 Tractor have many similarities, but there are key differences that set these two tractors apart. Here to make the side-by-side comparison is James Spriggs, a Lawn & Garden Equipment Salesman at Koenig Equipment.

James walks through the pros and cons of many features of these tractors; including the size, quality, functionality, price, ease of use, attachments, hydraulics, comfort, and more!

I went with the BX23s because of the much better snowblower and the dealer support is awesome from my dealer. The 1025r is awesome though my favorite feature was the loaders ability to pick up the mower deck.

James is a little confused. The JD tractor is really nice but his information on the Kubota is off. The Kubota has a quick detach bucket, its the two gray levers on the top back of the loader bucket. Also the loader assembly comes off without getting off the tractor. There is a lever you reach from the seat to release the stand for the loader, you do not get off the tractor. For me the Kubota was about $3K cheaper with the same implements, but that depends on the dealers you have in the area.

Only thing I had to look at was the dumb forward and reverse pedal on the kubota

Excellent summary, Mr. Spriggs. Seems to me that the Kubota looks easier to repair and that might be one of the most important things.

got quotes on 1025r and 2680 today. Both with 60in mower, loader and front snow plow setups. JD was $2k less.

I'm convinced! I'm buying a BX23S.

You just flat out lied 🤥 ignoring that the Kubota in front of you has the skid steer style quick dismount for the bucket ! It’s right in front of you! Hence I have the BX !

For me, I want equipment that can be repaired locally. The more complicated JD makes things, the worse off they'll be.

I’ve had a 1025R since 2015. It’s been fantastic and the ease of removing the loader and deck is worth it ! I hate mowing with the loader on. The ride is rough and it doesn’t maneuver as well. Also dangerous when not on flat ground unless you got real weights on. So the JD strips down to just a nice lawn mower with ease and everything can be put back on with ease to return it to tractor duties. It’s like a Swiss Army knife 🔪.

My neighbor has the kubota and he just bought a 2nd lawn mower rather than deal with removing his loader to mow the lawn in comfort. Yes he can mow with loader on…it’s just not very comfortable. He’s like me and hates mowing with weight of loader on front and rough ride. He wishes he bought the JD. The kubota is a great tractor but if you want your compact tractor to serve as full time lawn mower too then the JD wins by a mile. Without the loaded on it rides and turns great and doesn’t feel heavy and tippy. And since it’s so easy to do you don’t mind taking it on and off.

Hard to beat the 1025R in the 1 series class. Resale is 2nd to none as well.

Now do a real comparison like a b2601 vs the 1025r

You're comparing a old Kubota to a new John Deere
