As a JD Dealer, i like your videos and encourage my customers to go watch them and make up their own mind. I think these are 2 great tractors brands and customers should be aware of the pros and cons of each. Not every dealer share my opinion but I know MY costumers are happy that I'm willing to talk about it.

I finally got my B2301 (23hp version of the B2601). I was unsure about the treadle pedal.
First 2 hours of use: HATED it, was worried I was in trouble with this pedal
Next 2 hours: OK, it's getting better, but takes a lot of force with the heel to go in reverse
~Hour 5 or 6: OK, I'm getting the groove of this. This won't be a problem at all, and am sure I'll come to really like it.

So yes, there is a learning curve, and it isn't bad, and am starting to actually like it. Don't let the treadle pedal be the main/ only decision maker.

Great videos/ comments!

Another great video! Can't wait to get my B2301 next week. Many of these comments from B2301/B2601 alleviate my concerns going with b2301 and not LX2601. Great videos, great community / commenters

I enjoyed the comparison. To me I think the reverse pedal is outboard on the JD because when you are reversing and twisting around to look behind you it is easier to run the pedal when it is outboard. I have a 1025r and like the reverse outboard and would be disappointed if it was the opposite.

Good follow up to the “just the facts” video, Courtney! Thanks for posting! (I’m surprised the B2601 has not sold yet!)

My JD dealer told me, this came from a company rep, the reasoning behind the JD forward and reverse pedals arrangement was; when backing up a tractor most people will look over their right shoulder and it is a natural body movement for your foot to move outward as you turn your body, thus the reverse pedal being on the outside.
I enjoyed your comparison on both videos. Still glad I chose my John Deere 1023 E. We love it even though its the econo model. We really didn't need the extras on the 1025 R. And that "tredal pedal" on the Kubota, absolute pain in my book.
Thanks for the videos! We learned a lot and helped in making our decision on a purchase of a new tractor.

I have a Kubota and love the treadle peddle. I use my toe under the front to back up. But have a JD mower with the two pedals and like that too. You can get used to either one.
However, my JD plastic hood has cracked in three places and has been glued and bolted back together. Just from vibration not from contact. My metal Kubota hood still looks great.

The 3 range transmission was why I went to the 2601.

Good comparison and opinion videos. Bought the Kubota B2601 for two reasons: wanted the slightly bigger wheels due to terrain on my property, and JD dealers around me did not have 2025r’s on their lots. Love the B2601, I’m use to the treadle peddle, but I would much prefer twin peddle set up.

Could this be the age old ford vs Chevy debate, only in the tractor world? LoL,

I have the 1025r and I've found the fender mounted lights to be useless. They don't telescope and the light mostly hits the side of the tractor. I also hope JD gets rid of the stupid turnbuckles for the sway arms. I still haven't figured out how to adjust those things properly. Overall, I agreed with your opinions.

I would assume that JD has the peddles that way because of ergonomics... Most of the time you're going forward and it's more ergonomic to have your foot closer to in front of you than off to the side. At least that's my feeling on using mowers that have it.

I also agree on that having a 3 range hydro is great. I'm assuming price is why JD doesn't include it in the smaller tractors.

The only thing I think you might have missed was the brakes. I like having split brakes, I know the 1025r doesn't have them, not sure if the Kubota does or not. I also know Deere doesn't offer them until you get to the large frame 2 series which is sad.

I went through this two years ago between the 1023e, 1025r, B2301, B2601, plus a Yanmar. I laid out all the specs in a in a spreadsheet and give them weights based on my needs. The B2301 was the winner and I'm very happy with it. The B2301 will cost you less than a JD 1025r, it has a 3 range transmission, and independent breaks. The B2301 also has a 3point position control valve vs the 1023e quarter inching valve. The other big winner for me on the Kubota is the bigger tires. They give you a little more ground clearance and I had them loaded with Rim Guard and now I can do most loader work without having to attach ballast. Where I am in NH a BX is good for landscaping but doesn't have the ground clearance of lift capacity to do much if you get off turf. The 1 series is good for turf and a little work in the woods. The B01 tractors good for working on rough ground and in the woods but keep them off the lawn if the ground is at all wet.

My take is if your shopping for a machine ignore arbitrary classifications, and look at capabilities and real price of the machine instead of list price. The B2301 just packs a ton of value for my use case.

Opinions of a person who has access to both machines unbiased means more to me than a spec sheet. Thank you.

Hi Courtney,
One additional item to mention in the comparison between John Deere and Kubota. Fueling. Now if it wasn't for the government, fueling would be easier. With the introduction of the safety fuel cans these days which everyone hates, and are absolutely worthless, it is so easy on a Kubota to spill fuel all over the hood and below. I really like the fact that JD has the fuel fill in the back where it's easy to get to.
Great Video as always!
