In an attempt to drive innovation, a lot of leaders get frustrated trying to get their teams to embrace the concept of “fail fast.” The problem isn’t the idea, it’s the language. Most of us are naturally afraid of “failing,” and no number of presentations about how to innovate is going to change that. But “falling,” that’s something we know we can pick ourselves up from.

Perfect! This is exactly how I teach my history class. I tell my students every year that I want them to fail (not the class, but in their attempts to master the material). I have found that we learn much more from failure than from success, yet because of the way public high schools are structured and managed, students are only accustomed to success. Simon is essentially saying the same thing, but with different verbiage. This video has provided me with a different perspective on how to approach this idea, and perhaps when I show it to my students next fall, they'll better understand that I'm teaching more than just curriculum, I'm trying to teach them to learn.
