What's keeping someone from dressing up like a utility worker and going on someone elses property to either steal things or scope out the place? Not only that but if one of my employees acted like that on the job, he would be filing for unemployment. If he had just shown his ID and moved his vehicle, there wouldn't have been a problem to begin with.

Should have called a tow truck and had the cars removed at their expense.

Just ask them to remove their vehicles. Why did she first ask to see their badges? Also, how could she not find them if they were on her property. The story doesn't make sense. What is more, if the woman showed her badge, why does she ALSO need to see the badge of the man working with her? Utility works can and will access your property to work on their lines. They, in fact, own those lines and can work on them, without permission, up to the point they enter your house.

They should not have parked in her drive, that much is obvious. Beyond that, there is too much left unsaid to reach any conclusion about what the hell was going on.

Also as a utility worker I have never refused to show a customer my I’d that’s part of the job and safety.

He parked in her driveway, and went on her property. They do need permission. Try that down here in Texas, you will get shot, legally.

Should have stood behind his van and called the cops

Still see many people don't read the contracts they sign here in America. Utilities have legal permissions derived from the federal government, and approved by the states/municipals to access their property, typically up to the meter. This is especially true with natural gas, with wave of explosions and fatal emergencies over the past decades. I am not validating anyone's actions, however they could have been dealing with an urgent matter that wasn't necessarily an emergency. And in many cases, doing something such as starting a car can level a house. Just FYI for those who don't read documents the sign. You're welcome!

I would not show you my badge either. Why? I’m not asking entry into your home. I’ll move the vehicle if needed. How about you show me your ID? Let me record it. I was the victim of a Karen like this. She pretended to be the homeowner. She wasn’t. She was the next door neighbor who didn’t like the homeowner nor her husband. She didn’t want her neighbor issues resolved. We had to call Northville PD. Also I’m sure, each homeowner had written notice, that Consumer would be coming through doing maintenance. I’m also sure that this Karen had seen this maintenance going on for a while now. She just typical of some folk. Smh!

Come on my property and not identify yourself then I'm going to draw down on you until the cops get there and I'm perfectly within my legal rights to do so

#1. They have a right to be on the property but NOT to block someone's driveway
#2. They are required to produce there badge, she didn't become "aggressive" at all.
#3. His behavior and his language should get him fired.
#4. How is it ok to hook up to someone's line and use the energy that person is paying for, especially when working on someone else's property?!

The Utility has easment rights to access equipment, but We could not enter the backyard without permission and We never could park a company vehicle in a driveway. Park at the curb and haul our ladders and equipment in. If a Homeowner refused access you referred it to your supervisor who gained access by enforcing the easment legally if guy was wrong!

*9-11 Operator:* "9-11. What's your emergency?"
*Woman:* "There is a strange man on my property claiming to be from Consumer's Energy but refusing to show me any ID and tell me why he is here. He is refusing to leave. He is now doing something to my house and I feel threaten. Please send the police over."

That's all you have to do. Ya, the guy really was from CE and judging by his work van that should have been obvious but why take the chance especially if you're by yourself at home. Besides, he acted like a total ass just because the homeowner ask to see his ID to prove who he was and from what I saw didn't even explain why he was there. If I see some stranger on my property doing something to my home I'm going to demand to know what the hell is going on. Calling the police on assholes like this guy usually gives them a wakeup call that they can't act like this without consequences.

Only have the right to be on your property for service, of your home. They do not have the right to hook up and service another location, without notification or permission from your residence. Thats theft, and your meter should represent that, unless it was tampered. No identification, then he is trespassing and he's sitting on the ground until police arrive to FORCE him to identify who he is, and what he is doing. Anymore on this story?

If we energy comes onto my property without letting me know I'm going to detain him physically and call law enforcement for trespassing. And any physical damage that happens to my person or property well be compensated.
