RAID Configuration in HP ProLiant DL380 Servers: In this quick and simple tutorial I will guide you through How to configure RAID in ProLiant DL380 Gen8 Server, RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks, originally Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks) in RAID Data is distributed across the drives in one of several ways, referred to as RAID levels, depending on the required level of redundancy and performance.

We have used ILO to take Console of this server and rebooted server into Intelligent Provisioning mode by pressing F10 Key at Server POST page to manage HPE Smart Storage Administrator (SSA).

Follow below steps to configure RAID on HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 server

1. Power ON Server and press F10 to go into intelligent provisioning
2. Click Perform Maintenance
3. Click HPE Smart Storage Administrator (SSA)
4. Select Smart Array Controller
5. Click Configure
6. Click Create Array
7. Select available HDD to Create Array, we have 5 300 GB HDD and we need RAID 5 on this Server
8. Select your RAID Version, We need RAID 5 on this server
9. Click Create Logical Drive
10. Raid Configured Successfully.

What is Disk Array.
Arrays combine a series of drives into one system that can store up to petabytes (PB) of data under a central management system. Disk arrays were designed to separate storage from servers so systems could be built into large, monolithic configurations for block- or file-based storage.

A disk array enables storage capacity to scale and be managed far more efficiently than capacity from a collection of servers. Arrays have complicated redundancy features built into them, such as high-performance redundant array of independent disks (RAID) controllers, and the storage may be configured with logical unit numbers (LUNs).

I need to achieve a task with hp server(Replace HP Smart Array Controller ProLiant DL360 Gen9 Server) I saw the documentation but I have three questions:

1-If I press the power button for 4 sec does the server goes off or it will stay on but with less power consumption (does the server has a battery like a laptop)?

2-If I replace RAID controller do I have to reconfigure RAID ? is the configuration of raid is saved inside the raid controller or the configuration is saved in another place?

3-if I configure RAID and the hard disks were not empty(had some data)

does RAID format the disks before involve them inside the RAID?

@

Thank you sir

Hi. I remember (hope i remember correctly) that on G5, G7 i was able to launch the Smart Array Administrator and add new arrays, create logical drive without having to reboot the server. How can I do that on G9, G10? Are these the only two ways i have to do? 1. Reboot and press F10. 2. Log in on iLo?

Have 2 ssd with 2TB each.
During a
rraid RAID 0 config, it shows 3.6 Tib available space. Where 400 GB gone? Why it is missing? Any additional config?
In the video everything correct 1/3 of total size for raid 5. With raid 0 must be 100% and not 75%.
