If you were to use a 24 word seed phrase, even though it would provide additional entropy when generating private keys, the underlying private key would still be broken in 2^128 operations — exactly the same as a 12 word seed. This means that longer seed phrases will not add additional security to the underlying private keys themselves, and only increase the difficulty of brute-forcing a given seed phrase, something that is already statistically impossible for a 12 word seed phrase.

Can't they just guess 24 word seeds and test them with wallets. Guessing a particular specific one might take forever, but guessing random ones and puling out what they can get with any that work still might be profitable.

Maybe they hit a wallet that has 0.002 BTC. Then later maybe they hit a wallet with 10 BTC.

Or maybe I still don't get it.

Unless I am missing something, there really arent so many combinations (10^77) You need to discard all the ones that don't make sense as dictionary words.

Is remembering the 24 words enough to recover all your funds? does the 24 word also remeber your adress?

Close but not exactly. It is 2^264 (decimal) which is the same number as 2048^24. It is not 2^256 as mnemonic phrase also has a checksum!
This is also 10^77, probability of someone guessing 24 words out of 2048 words in the exact order is the same as 1 : 10^77...for illustration, this is roughly the same as if you would need to pick 1 correct atom out all the atoms in the observable universe.

How about a video about the difference between 12 and 24 words? Some say there is not much difference, some say 12 words can not take advantage of some features added later on to the bitcoin software. I honestly do not know, it just seems that if 12 (and a Passphrase) are enough, why not? That would be less to make a mistake with. I still find it hard to believe that I have made mistakes in the past with 24 words. Thankfully nothing major that I could not recover from.
