When i first started i was asking the same questions, "Which cert is best", "Hacking first? or python? or PowerShell? or Bash?" There is no right or wrong answer, work on all of it because you need to know it all anyway. Some weeks you feel motivated to reverse engineer malware, the next week you're looking at Cisco appliances and specs. It doesn't matter, do what motivates you at the moment and keep falling down the rabbit hole.

John is such a humble and "to the ground" person, that it's hard to believe such personalities do exist in real :)

This is the most motivational and best learning experience I've had to getting an idea if this is the career for me. For the first time, I feel interesting and exciting again, learning so much. Thank you.

You can see the genuine joy on his face what he's talking about hacking.

Thanks Mr. Chuck! This is great for someone as myself. 64 years old, A+ CompTia Cert 2001, doing volunteer work at a non profit in Cyber Security. I have no pressure, no boss, and the point is to develop a PenTesting sector for specific vendors I would need Security and Networking but as goes the rest, there is so much more Thanks to your video, the necessities are specified AND where to go get them! Superb. Thanks again.

Im so happy this conversation exists. Im just getting running through the PNPT training, cracking a few boxes on HTB and starting some enumeration on bug boards. This is awesome

a good way to get the basics of Linux is to just try using it for your daily driver for a bit, it might be a bit inconvenient at first but it's incredible how much you'll learn after a bit.

I'm laughing out loud when you guys mentioned CEH and I definitely agree with John to take something more practical rather than working on your memory to complete that MCQ exam. I took it nevertheless just to have an idea of what they want out from us. Though I passed it, I still think OSCP is the way to go if you want to be a practical pentester. Worse should you take CEH practical for that kind of price they charge, go for something else.

You learn to hack by encountering an obstacle or problem, and needing to look deep to figure something out. Hacking is problem solving.

Dearest Chuck, you are truly an inspiration as an educator and your passion is so unbelievably refreshing. I have always struggled with a lot of the concepts you run through but you have an excellent skill at taking complex concepts and explaining them to the simplest of minds. Plus you're properly entertaining, engaging and funny. Now enough blowing smoke, lol, but yeah, thank you for taking the time to provide us with some of the best content on the tube. My girlfriend is even hooked on your channel and she couldn't be the least bit interested in my hacking obsession, ethically, of course. Now we're building hacking labs together. Sometimes she even lets me be the black hat attacker in night time "pentesting" 😂 Keep up the excellent work and above all, stay awesome. Thanks again. Hack the planet, and again, ethically of course.

I enjoy your videos because 1 quick pace (I can pause when needed) 2 You're never condescending to your audience 3 you use many tools and share how they work together (like how fabric works with × etc 4 I like your special guests--no one does this alone. 5 You make being a nerd almost cool! 🤓 🤣

PS You prob use AI to sift, condense, gather data & the sentiment of your Comments... I have been using your YouTube comments add the data for my project, using 20 of your vids over 4 years.
I've found that your vids sentiment positivity has increased the past 18mos. More comments in the past 9 months express gratitude, and interestingly, the past year sentiment shows increasing engagement between commenters -- your upbeat, open and engaging style brings people together!

Of ALL the work you share on YouTube, my favorite is that you help users 🤔 w critical thinking about ways interact personally w tech and in a way you're fostering a respectful environment where people begin to interact with each other! (Hint: you'd be an awesome facilitator ...

I learn on my own, but pick it up so much quicker when I interact and learn with others. Too many experienced techs become egotistical, they charge too much money which is not great for broke noobs or people w imposter syndrome. And this self-taught grandma in tech offers a fresh perspective that many 20s & 30s techs dismiss too quickly as not the right Fit for their Culture. So I appreciate how you freely share techniques in a fun and inclusive way!

"tricking you into learning" - I love this because traditional education is SO bad. Lecture and testing is not how your brain works and this quote reflects how ingrained it is in our culture. "Information dump and forget it the next day." 😂

fun FACT...!! So i was ranked 1st in the world in Call Of Duty and maintained top 10 for 6 years in a row... I have retired from all that now, and evolved to hacking for a career. SEE... COD got my adrenaline going and once you get so good you lose that feeling. But when i found hacking that adrenaline came rite back to me. So when John is talking about esports... Seriously i do feel like hacking is the next evolution for top tier gamers!!!
