The data engineer job is quite heavily focused on Python, but often in combination with multiple other skills like Cloud (Azure/AWS/GCP), batch vs streaming frameworks like Airflow or Prefect for orchestration and Kafka for streaming pipelines.

The type of code is more often functional design/pragmatic compared to OOP like C or Java languages are.

I want to highlight that there are also a lot of jobs that utilize python in infrastructure and networking. It's rarely brought up outside its own bubble of professionals. But major companies such as Cisco heavily favor Python for network automation, and similarly stuff like Ansible is not only built on python, but is very useful in combination with python to handle infrastructure as well.

That's how i got into Python full time (came from network and security). So if you some networking background you are really valuable, as most networking is heading in the direction of infrastructure as code and automation.

It's actually simple, when applying to an entry level job, just have 15 years of experience already.

If you can demonstrate more than a surface understanding of pandas, statsmodels, jupyter, scikit learn it will also really help data analysis and data science jobs.
