Lecture: Biblical Series VI: The Psychology of the Flood

Показать описание

The story of Noah and the Ark is next in the Genesis sequence. This is a more elaborated tale than the initial creation account, or the story of Adam and Eve or Cain and Abel. However, it cannot be understood in its true depth without some investigation into what the motif of the flood means, psychologically, and an analysis of how that motif is informed by the order/chaos dichotomy, as well as by the idea of an involuntary voyage to the underworld or confrontation with the dragon. In consequence, this lecture concentrates almost exclusively on psychology: How is an encounter with the unknown to be understood, conceptually? How and why is that represented with themes such as the underworld voyage, the dragon fight, or the flood?

All that constitutes the theme of lecture VI.

You know Peterson personally paid 60K to rent the hall, and almost another 10K on the camera work for this lecture series. This is what he is doing with the Patreon money he raises. I really admire this guy.

I've listened to this whole series at least a dozen times and counting. Thank you JP. I know you've been sick and I pray for your health. I was an athiest when I first started listening and in part, your series has brought me to God.

It really is incredible that we live in a time where everyone has a handheld device that gives you access to the entire knowledge of humanity. To have even a series like this at hand for free, at all times, is mind blowing to me. YouTube and other platforms have become like a modern day library of Alexandria.

It's just me or someone also do this: sometimes I watch 5 min of the lecture (because of so much information condensed in it), then I have to pause it and think about my life for half an hour! It's unbelievable because it makes me remember things long gone, and sometimes it makes me understand things that have happened years ago.

This series is easily the best thing that's ever happened to my faith and reason. Thank you, Dr Peterson, from an estranged believer.

Three million subscribers! I never thought this would make me happy, but it does. To know that three million people are interested in learning what Dr Peterson has to say warms my heart!

When I was young I thought freedom meant to do what I wanted. When I grew up I learned its in doing the right despite what I want.

Man, these lectures are excellent. It's so exciting to watch. I feel like I'm witnessing a modern-day Socrates, or something like that.

"In a relationship assume stupidity before malevalence...." god damn it, this is exactly one of the principles I had come up with in my previous relationship and it's awesome to see it confirmed by him!

"Beware of wisdom you didn't earn." He just blew my mind. This is exactly what I think when I hear 20 year old hippies talk about "being enlightened" after having a couple of acid trips.

Is there anyone else like me out there? I graduated high school but I never moved on to college or anything at all mostly because of money. Instead of wasting my time playing video games or something I spend my free time listening to lectures like this or just learning as much as possible online? I am very thankful for people like Peterson who give this knowledge away for us, we need more encouragement for people to educate themselves and this is a good start.

Can we agree that this man deserves a nobel peace prize?

Wow, 45 minutes in, JP has just finished saying that when people get isolated, out of a routine, they no longer have the social, sanity signals that keep them sane. This, I think, is so true of the new generation that I count myself as a part of. A lot of people don't have a routine, we are spending more and more time alone online, instead of getting those sanity signals we need to maintain sanity. I have noticed, that when people become unemployed, they tend toward an ideology because they ensconce themselves in an echochamber like corner of the internet and end up "drifting."

I am a nurse who see patients in their homes. I listen to his lectures daily no matter their age as I drive from home to home. His knowledge is timeless. I have seen him speak/teach in person in New York. I have read 18 of his bajillion recommended books to read. This guy, has gave me something to aim for. Since I have been aiming, my life has gotten so much better I feel like a different human being. Thanks Dr. Peterson.

I have saved thousands of dollars in therapy. Thank you Dr. Peterson. I still have some cleaning and sorting out to do, but I am on the right path.
