This is something my trainer has drilled me on with the TROT! I hadn’t tried it at the canter though! Standing in your stirrups is so so good for your balance and leg strength 💪

WE DID IT! This excersize is truly a game changer ! 😁 Practiced my last two rides and had a few AHA moments. My horse loves it! My legs were so much better. This will be Incorporated into my daily riding until I am strong enough to do it well. I gotta tell you, I was very sore after the first day 😅

This is exactly what I needed for my students!! Such an easy way to explain 🤣 I am always that teacher yelling "Longer legs! Use the lower leg don't squeeze with the knees or thighs!" So this is what I needed to help them

Oh how I love this chick. When she screeches "stop gripping with your knees, put your legs on" (about 1.46 into the video) I can't help but chuckle. One because she sounds so Aussie (and love it) and also because it sounds familiar from my pony club days. And by using 2 point to help with getting the correct position for your knee and therefore not gripping is a lightbulb moment. Thank you. 😀👏🏻

Yes! 2 point work is where it's at. So many times I have people asking me to help them learn to sit the canter better and I immediately have them up in 2 point working g on their leg strength a few have gotten irritated with me saying they were not here to learn a jumping position but quite the opposite. I have to tell them they MUST work on their leg and core strength to be able to sit better. Doesn't matter if your riding in and english saddle, western saddle, endurance saddle or bareback! If you don't work on yourself your horse pays the price unfortunately.
Thanks for the video!

This totally flipped “how to canter” on its head! Thank you Alicia for such amazing, easy to understand and implement principles and examples. My riding has changed dramatically in the last few weeks since I started putting into practice what I’m learning here. The best part? My horse is happier too!

Hello Alicia. I’m just a happy hacker on a cob, but I find your videos so helpful, easy to understand and even though I will never ride a dressage horse the techniques I’m learning are helping me and horse at our low level of riding. Just wanted to let you know how much your time and effort is appreciated Thank you.

I practiced this today and it was really helpful! I've been struggling to understand the correct way to sit the canter and feel like I keep changing to try to correct it but not knowing how. We worked up to step 3 and am keen to work on rising canter next :) Thank you!

I have been doing this without knowing how fantastic it is! My little quarter horse has an enormous canter so the only way I could ride it was in a two point position. Eventually, I started sitting and going back to two-point. I was doing the right thing and didn’t even know it! 🥳 I do not bounce in the canter because of it.

Never thought of using the rising canter like this😍 Can't wait to try this to see if fixes the last bit of my seat in the canter🤩 You are great at describing how you can inprove yourself through easy small steps. Thank you Alicia

I've only watched 6 minutes of this video and you are fixing all of my problems! I was so happy when you said 'we know what we should be doing, but how do we actually get our body to DO it'? Exactly!

Brilliant! I look forward to practicing this. Trying so hard to get back into riding shape after a few years off. Not as easy to do as it was when I was younger. Definitely putting this tool in my toolbox. Thank you so much ❤

This is so helpful! I have a horse that I’m working mostly on the canter, he tends to get quite strong and needs to learn to collect his canter, I have always had a problem with bouncing in the canter so this was so helpful!

I tried your 4-step formula yesterday and it totally worked! My coach never complained about me bouncing, but I felt like I was bouncing in the canter. So, I used your formula, pushed my legs super long into the stirrups, and tucked my hips under. The bouncing feeling stopped! Thank you!

I used this in my first dressage lesson and it helped me so much and I have just started my dressage journey switching from the jumpers and I am so excited!

I love these videos so much! I’ve had a long time off from riding and I’m just starting back. I feel like I’ve completely lost my seat and these videos are so helpful in breaking things down and giving clear step-by-step instructions to help bring me back. Thanks so much Alicia!

OMG - That makes sooo much sense! Amazing video instruction on canter work. In steps 3 and 4 I have 3 questions: 1. How do you prevent the lazy horse or the one that ‘struggles a bit’ from falling back into trot when in 2-point - whip? Spur? Body? 2. How do you prevent same horse from falling back into trot when you sit back down in the saddle? 3. At about the 15:00 minute mark you mentioned that you have a good connection with Gee (you look amazing by the way!!) How ARE you connected - with reins? Legs? Body? Or all of the above? Thank you so very much for this video Alicia - I always wondered how you increase the canter energy from working/medium to collected if you are already driving with your seat in the working paces.
