Prison artists are truly talented, they work with what they have not with what they get. The hard part for me is choosing and adapting to the right needle.

Dude thank you. I'm a fairly talented artist but tattooing is new to me. Learning the machines and techniques is definitely interesting.

I'm very glad to have these little tutorials to help me work through some of the issues that I run into..

I'm gonna keep practicing because it's something that definitely interests me.

Thank you, and for the next one I would love a in depth on needle gauges(not size). There’s some info out there but nothing live on the skin. I use a standard 12 and would like to truly know the difference on the skin

When you are struggling with color contrast, I recommend reading a bit about them.
There are these topics for example:
- simultaneous contrast
- complementary contrast (the strongest)
- dark-light contrast (what you demonstrated when turning color in black and white)
- three tone and four tone contrast.
So, by only relying on dark light contrast you might miss the strongest type of colour contrasts like blue and orange, which are a pair of complementary contrasting colours.
Read about the colour wheel as well, but take the technical route which is build on RGB and/or CIE Lab colours. They are at the current state of science and will give you the best understanding of how colour perception works.

Everything what you mentioned here is truth and from many years of experience sounds so obvious but it seems to be the same for everyone
