The only time I’ve ever brought more than one person with me to get tattooed is when both of my parents came because they were paying for it as a birthday present and they completely surprised me by taking me to the artist I wanted to get the tattoo that I wanted

My artist knows I have Narcolepsy so if I start to fall asleep she looks out for me and stops cuz I can jerk when I wake up. She books me for longer just in case I have a sleep attack. But I’m only charged for the time of tattooing. She’s so caring and gives me epic tattoos with a great experience.

I often hear artists begging that clients only bring one person. It’s surprising that rolling up with your entire posse like your on your death bed is such a common problem

The sleep thing is no joke…I went straight to a session after a night shift was the worst tattoo experience I have ever had

"Make sure you shower and use deodorant" 😅 people really show up to get their tattoo, smelling bad? Thats a shame.

I always have trouble with the eating thing… I get so nervous before tattoos that I feel sick and don’t want to eat but then in the middle of it I feel starving! I usually bring snacks with me so I don’t end up passing out but it would be so much better if my stupid anxiety would just go away so I could eat beforehand!

I like being sleepy before a tattoo session . I can sleep through the painful parts

I remember the night I was supposed to meet my artists late because of my work schedule. I got there early, sat a while, it was freezing out and my car had no heat. I left him a note "At the bar, come get me." it was two doors up. I had enough time for 3-4 drinks when he showed up. We go back to the shop and this being the 80s and not having YouTube videos to teach us right and wrong he's bitching at me for drinking. He starts working, I start bleeding. . . these two teens, maybe 18? come to the door and ask if they can look around my artist says 'sure' then they come to the ledge between the booth and hallway and ask what he's working on. Dude spins me around and there's blood everywhere. The girl goes white and they beat feet out the door and I got bitched at for costing him potential customers. . . as we laughed. Don't drink and ink.

Def coming back to this in a year! I plan on getting my first tat freshly 18, so I wanna take the time to be a good client and generally just not be stupid, so this helps a lot!

my brother took me and his two friends when he got his first tattoo. the dude didn’t seem angry or annoyed, but that could’ve been a coverup🤷🏼‍♀️

Personal note:

When i had my first session with the artist (who i’m now good friends with!) i had saved up and told him what my budget was before we booked the day.

Difference is:
«Hey man, my budget is 1400$. I wish i could go higher but that’s all i can afford»

Sounds better than:
«Can i get it for 1400$? How mich is it gonna cost? Could you cut me a deal if it’s more expensive?»

Luckily that was his rate for a full day, and i think we might’ve gone a bit longer as well. He told me before we started that it was completely cool to bring up cost and budget, as long as one does it in a nice way.

I like to shave before I go in too, especially if it is a *Hairy area that is being tattooed because those cheep dollar store razors do not do the job. 🤣

What I’ve learned from both my sleeves and my recent( Saturday ) left chest sessions to always eat eat eat before hand and being a ton of energy drinks and snacks and if you like to smoke bring a vape with you. Also bring a car pillow with you if their chairs don’t have one and if your shirt is off being a towel as well in case you sweat a lot while getting tattooed to lay your back on. I usually start to sweat a little bit towards the 5-7 hr mark if the artist had a heavy hand. But Saturdays didn’t even sweat a bit it was the easiest session I’ve ever had next to my right outer forearm tattoo. Next month when this is healed I’m going in for touch ups and he wants to add some more textures which is nice of him and I’ll be setting up for the next week my right chest with him. Also prepare to spend a lot of money if you want good artists because that’s what they charge when their time is always getting booked but tipping amount is up to you. I actually don’t agree with the tipping ( I still do ) of big money artists but that’s for another day
