Although knowing this song, I hadn’t really listened to its lyrics before. Ms Jones’ signing and singing for some reason focused me on them. What a well constructed, meaningful and beautiful song. Hats off to Joni Mitchell and, indeed, to Ms Jones.

I watched it twice when it came to the movie theatres right at the beginning, in Gloucester, Massachusetts where it was filmed and where the story takes place. I lived there for 36 years, everything you see is real, no Hollywood backdrops at all. A magnificent place and a wonderful movie.

I saw the BAFTA rendition and it was great. However, the original is still the best for me. That connection she made to her parents while auditioning was superb! Bridging the gap indeed! Always makes me cry! 😭😭
