Punch It! Poe Dameron may have been a little clueless as to how an Emperor returned 30+ years later, but the majority of audiences found themselves just as clueless. But don't worry! In today's video, I'll be explaining Palpatine's contingency plan...all in UNDER 10 minutes. This is where the fun begins.

I still need to get through the video, but UNPOPULAR OPINION from me: I don’t think it’s all THAT complicated and I’m actually fine with Palpatine coming back.

The rise of so many different villains both in the EU and canon post-Endor meant that there was always gonna be some challenge to the peace so Anakin’s actions didn’t ultimately guarantee a forever peace. Anakin’s actions were NOT DIMINISHED but the were still important. It was ultimately to save Luke. But they did give the galaxy a chance to come back.

Palpatine’s return was hinted in trailers BEFORE the supposed Fortnite reveal. And even then, he has Sith ways of manifesting back that are even shown IN THE FILMS! (But someone is probably just gonna scream “DOES NOT MATTER THEY BUTCHERED STAR WARS AND JJ DESERVES TO DIE” anyways, because it’s the Star Wars fanbase.)

And even then, it’s a great follow-up. It solidifies Palpatine as a dark entity rising in the shadows to strike back at the galaxy, and he remains formidable across TROS.

I’m a fan of The Rise of Skywalker for all the things you pointed out. Thanks for the video!

Really optimistic video, as someone who has never hated the sequels but also never really *loved* them, I've definitely noticed excessive hate online for them. While they may not live up to everyone's standards, that's just how movies go, and I know people felt that same way when the Prequels came out as well. Some people love these movies, and some hate them, that's just how it is. You can wish for them to be better, but at the end of the day they're set and stone and there's no reason to go after people who enjoy them for what they are. While I didn't love ROS, I admire how much you adore it and that honestly makes me really happy to see. Great video :)

Emperor Sheev Palpatine returned by several means, firstly:

1.Under guidance from ancient Sithal Texts, the as-yet-unseen Lord Darth Blakuunga was able to contact the wayward spirit of Sheev deep in the mysterious Sith Other World by using ancient Adamantinine Woodoo Circlets during an ancient evil Sithal ceremony called Blackgsgashguh. this new power gave Sheev the strength to begin the slow, painful process of re-assembling his atoms over the forest moon of Endor.

2. When his Sith Atom Reassemblage spell was nearly complete, Sheev enacted his secret Sith Order 666, which provided his new body with both a force field and an X-1-BB1 Sith Bomber starship to travel to the mysterious deep core world Byss, where he established his ancient Sith clone army, who promptly began building 1, 000 Death Star Destroyers using ancient parts found on the planet's surface (mostly made up of X5-9-BZ Empirical Woodoo Soft-Steel).

3. by 10 ABY he had achieved his final form and sent out a mysterious Sith Vocal Call to all players of the _Fortnite_ video game.

4. Also, Disney were absolutely strapped for ideas and creativity following the disastrous _The Last Jedi, _ where they for some reason killed their main antagonist, so J.J. Abrams and Chris Terrier said "We gonna bring back Palpatine" and so they did, which resulted in the hit flim _Star Wars: Episode IX: Rise of Skywalker._

5. Star Wars fans deserve much, _much_ better than what Disney have tossed them.

Frankly it's pretty much on par with all the other nonsense in this franchise. I have never heard anybody accuse Star Wars of being well written

I mean yeah, it's bad. Of course it is. It's Star Wars. And it's clear that the angry incels who were obsessed with hating The Last Jedi freaked out the mouse and they decided to change course so they had to cobble something together right fast. It's also pretty much par for the course in this children's space wizard franchise with its silly muppets, toyetic helmets, and pew pew laser guns

I was going to watch this video, but then this "subject" said Rise of Skywalker was his second favorite movie, and that was it. Dislike and close the video.

One of the biggest problems of epIX in my opinion was the lack of set up in previous episodes. It is objectively true that that is a flaw. But, 1 of the best things abt epIX (and SW as a whole) is how it changes with added context. Ever since the Mandalorian came out back in 2019, it started to become more and more clear that the Empire was preparing for Palpatine's return for quite some time now. And that he manipulated them as well. And, as of now, I think that Palpatine returning is 1 of the coolest things in the timeline and the "somehow" part of "Somehow Palpatine returned" speaks great volumes abt the success of his plans (as no one knew how they worked).

Yes because when trying to understand the plot of a movie you should first be an expert on all the law from the books, TV shows, comics etc...

No, the answers should be in the movie. If you're going to have the big bad cheat death and come back, fine; but you shouldn't have to go to the ancillary works for info.

That's the problem with people like this, (saying that it's the first video of this guy I've ever seen and it'll probably be the last!) but when you're sitting in the theatre for a couple of hours of entertainment you shouldn't have to have first invested 100s of hours to understand it.

I remember back in the day watching the response to the Mass Effect 3 by Mrbtongue, and how it's biggest flaw was the loss of narrative coherence and the same thing is true here. I couldn't enjoy the movie because a million "Wait... What?!" questions were going through my head.

Any story needs a clear progression from A to B to C etc... and the sequel trilogy doesn't have it. For all the flaws of the prequels it at least had a semblance of narrative coherence, all the way from the inciting incident on Naboo to Anakin's fall and the rise of the Empire.

Imagine if you'd got to the end of Episode 3 and gone "wait, why did that happen? What's all that about?" and someone said "Oh it all makes sense if you watched The Clone Wars TV show!" (Yes I know the show came out after the movies, I'm just making a point).

Great video! I loved Palpatine's return, both in concept and execution, because it underscored a key theme of Star Wars - that the Sith, drawing their power from darkness and fear but also consumed by their own fear of losing that power and facing oblivion, would desperately seek to cling to their life and their power by the most terrible and unnatural means (Maul's survival also falls in line with this). But despite their twisted efforts, the only true path to immortality in Star Wars is through the Light Side - selflessness and mastery of those darker impulses, love and willing sacrifice, and living on not for one's own power but for others. We see this idea play out in every trilogy - Originals, Prequels, and Sequels, and other stories as well. That thematic idea alone would have been enough for me, but the logistical explanations that followed both within the movie itself and subsequent storytelling all make perfect sense to me. I believe it all tracks beautifully within the larger narrative and thematic tapestry of Star Wars. It also does not undercut the idea of Anakin's sacrifice for me either, for exactly the reasons you outlined.

Furthermore, while I enjoyed the Legends story of Palpatine's return in Dark Empire as well, I think the Canon version of the same concept has been executed far better, and more comfortably aligns with the core ideas of the Saga.

Honestly, it’s no surprise to me that the guy who was pursuing the secret of living forever would have a contingency plan in case any part of his plans were thwarted. Quite frankly, I’m just happy to have a clearer explanation, as they didn’t make it completely clear in the movie.

Thanks for making this video! 🙂 Keep loving Star Wars, and may The Force be with you. 😄

Love this video! You explain everything perfectly. TROS is my favourite, so nice to see some good faith discussion.

I’m honestly one of those people who honestly thinks that Palpatine returning makes a decent amount of sense. I mean, let’s be real here: Sheev literally had 50, 000 back-up plans, so it’s unsurprising he would’ve had a plan for his return in the event he died. I do think it could’ve been executed a whole lot better, but I do believe that it can work.

i think the best way to take in the information is by watching all the movies in order and THEN watching the scene fresh? it makes more sense, people are watching this movie in some cases with literal years worth of gap since the last time they watched movies like episode 1 let alone the whole prequel trilogy, i highly doubt anyone watched ep. 3 right before they watched TRoS....but if you DO so? it fit's like a glove.

palpatines entire relevance in the prequels is based entirely around the fact that he tempts anakin to the dark side BECAUSE of his promise to him to teach him the power to cheat death...that was always the point. so when you watch the fact that palpatine was literally smart enough to preform THE most convoluted plan in existence to destroy the jedi order and set himself up as emperor? on TOP of his whole story about his master who unlocked the secret of cheating death? there is no question he is the kinda guy who would set up a contingency plan to save himself in case he ever guy literally sabotaged vaders suit to make it specifically susceptible to lightning attacks specifically to cheat they system and have a contingency plan to save himself....honestly, there is so much shit palpatine is given credit for that he accomplished in LESS than 2 decades but the MFer is given 3 whole ass decades and people are out here pretending to be confused on how it's possible....it's fucking MAGIC
