I sometimes find it comforting that animals who have passed on never had to experience losing us. As sad as I am that Lord Sherpa has left us, I am grateful that he never had to miss his Jamie…he had his best friend by his side every moment of his life, much as it should be. Imagine living your entire life never having to part with the person or people you love most…a very lucky dog, indeed.

Yesterday, my Beagle Gracie passed on. She was 13 years, 5 months. During her life she was a handful, never quiet unless sleeping, always on the move. Her brother Tripper is showing sadness, and my tears come easily. I keep seeing her in the house. I feel your pain.

I lost Star a year ago. It's still lonely so I went to a rescue and adopted a dog name Bentley. I believe Star sent him to me. SO we continue our walks in honor of Star.

It doesn't feel like you're alone Jaimie. To me, it feels like Sherps' presence over all those years has transformed you and now he is a part of who you are. That's why he will be always beside you. He may not be there physically, but he sure is spiritually and that kind of presence is never going to wane. Sherps is meant to stay with you and all of us.

There's an awful silence when you lose your best friend. Even though they mean well, it's hard to hear that they are still with us when that awful silence says otherwise. We just have to fill that quiet with something that affirms our love and memories. Your journey helped mine.
