You can get even more performance out of the game by using an ARM version of Java and specifying it in the game's launcher; that'll improve performance quite a bit as you won't need Rosetta for it

Possibly the most impressive thing about this is that the M1 MacBook Air has no fan and runs silently-also while maintaining very cool temperatures.

there is a way to run the game natively. basically what you need to do is install the ARM version of java and specify it in your launcher. the game should run quite a bit better like that. InfoToast have a detailed article on how to optimise the game for M1 which is worth taking a look at and covers a few other ways of improving performance.

I've very much considered getting an Apple Silicon based machine because they perform so well, but as someone who mostly plays ancient versions of Minecraft that don't play nice with M1 it isn't really worth it for me personally. Plus I've never used a Mac as my main computer before, I'm still using a 10 year old desktop running Windows 7 and it works well enough for what I do.

Edit (July 2024): I did end up getting a 2020 13inch M1 MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, and it's been great so far. Questioning why I didn't get one sooner honestly. It has been able to do everything I've thrown at it, even playing Minecraft with shaders.

You don’t hear fans bc there aren’t any

I use this exact model for Minecraft. Usually 1.8.9, and I can get up to 1, 100 fps on hypixel. It’s really crazy how a laptop can perform like this for a game! Great vid

The 30fps-300fps may be because of the limited ram, causing the chunk distance to be the main factor

Minecraft 1.19 now supports the M1 architecture natively, meaning it runs on an apple process rather than rosetta. If you load in with the fabric loader mod and sodium, you can get insane FPS without raising the computer temperature too far.

(If you use the iris shaders mod, you can run shaders around 60 fps with low-moderate settings. My favorite Mac compatible shaders are complementary and sildur's vibrant medium)

Finally someone who actually knows how to review minecraft on a mac. everyone else just leaves the FPS cap at 60 so we cant see any real performance changes

I play MC on a m1 macbook pro, and I usually get around 200 ish fps with optifine, and render distance at 12 playing regular survival. The fan doesn't even turn on. The max I have gotten was 1400 fps when I optimized everything and flew up until I couldn't see the ground anymore. Macs have become pretty good minecraft machines.

Wow, I just got the same MacBook air too! The fact that this video got recommended to me is just fascinating

From my experience, playing on 1.18+ with the Chunk Memory Allocator to Swap increases the stability of my framerate on my M1 Mac Mini when running with Sodium.

i actually play on a 2008 macbook air. Its actually not my mac though, its my moms lol. I only borrowed it because i wanted to try minecraft java. Its actually really impressive that it can run the lastest version and still average 60-100 fps. And if i run 1.8 i still average around 120-220 fps. But despite with the high fps, i actually play with vsync on since my fps actually fluctuate a lot lol, probably because my macs ram is just 4 lmao.

Finally someone who doesn’t just talks trash about apple products. Usually what people do they just use the macs for something which apple products aren’t made for. They were made for WORKING and a lot of people say - “for this price it doesn’t run my favorite game on 400 fps, apple products are garbage” LIKE COME ON THEY WEREN’T MADE FOR GAMING AT ALL

If the Mac with the M1 can run Java at that high FPS, surely the iPad Pro M1 could run Bedrock with very very high intensity shaders. I have one, and I don’t get any lag whatsoever even on 22 chunk render distance and the highest graphics. The performance of the M1 chip is pure insanity

Him: The temperature doesn't go to more than 40°
Me: Huh
Him: You don't hear a fan because it doesn't have one.
Me: what, my computer that has a fan get's to 60° when I don't even use it....

had my m1 macbook air since february this year, and honestly its just so amazing. its so performant, I did manage to get it up to 80*c tho, which was by watching 4k youtube, syncing one drive and iCloud aswell as compiling code
I also play Minecraft on here with lunar client m1 version and in 1.18 I tend to get 600+ fps

Im on a normal MacBook Air 2020 and I get get around 80 fps on 1.16 and 200 fps on 1.8 in bedwars, its crazy to see how much fps you can get on normal M1 MacBook Airs. I'm hyped for the shader video (as my MacBook can't run shaders :()
