If been waiting for this one. I loved her tv show back in the day. She had it all, looks, talent and charm. Those were the days they don't make stars like Alma anymore

This lady paved the way for all the female singers that followed. Class, glamour, flamboyance and expert vocals.
A real shame that her life and career ended when she was so young, she would have had the resurgence and longevity in her career like Shirley Bassey, Dusty Springfield, Cilla Black etc.

i was born and brought up in Worthing. We used to go to the annual pantomime at the Connaught Theatre. They always had a star turn in the second half while the sets were being redone. one year was Alma Cogan!. Probably around 1962 - I was only 11, and my parents were not up with current trends! never knew she was essentially at home then.

Blimey, "If I had a golden umbrella", haven't thought about that song for nearly 70 years. Think I'll give it a listen.

Thank you for your work on this video. I was born and raised in Whitechapel in the East End of London. During my childhood, I can remember my mother walking me past an Army surplus store near to the Whitechapel end of Vallance Road. My mother told me that the man who owned the store “had a beautiful sister who was a famous singer”. In a display cabinet hanging by the shop doorway, were various (signed) photos of Alma Cogan - posed portraits, promotional shots and pictures with other famous showbiz people of the day. After Alma’s untimely death, her brother’s display cabinet became a kind of shrine for all to see. Such a shame that Alma did not live longer so that more of the World could have heard and seen her. Thanks again. Stay safe and well.

As a child of the 50's I grew up hearing this woman and couldn't abide her. And there was another called Diana Decker who I also consigned to my infant sin-bin. But it's tragic that she died so young. Not mentioned in the narrative is that she never employed an agent, and always demanded personal payment in cash at every venue. She was reckoned to be the UK's most highly paid entertainer at the height of her career. Dunno what became of her wealth, but you don't live "modestly" in Kensington High St...

She was gorgeous. If she had been taller, she could have been a model. I like the photos with the Beatles, Gene Pitney, and Brian Epstein. Cary Grant would have been too much for her. He was a party guy. John Lennon was a notorious philanderer. Just so you know, Alma is the Spanish word for soul.
