Ed Hammond, Director of the Duke Center for Health Informatics at Duke University is on a quest to answer one of healthcare’s biggest questions: What does the “perfect health system” look like?

In a sweeping conversation about digital health and health equity, we find out about Ed’s project to define “perfection” in healthcare delivery through in-dept interviews with 17 different groups of stakeholders. He’s talking with clinicians, nurses, and allied health professionals for an 'inside' perspective, and augmenting that with the point-of-view of healthcare consumers of varying races, ages, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status.

Though his research is in early days, Ed’s talked with 5 different groups already and is beginning to uncover some themes. He asks participants to “suspend the reality of health benefits and not being able to do something,” then digs into what’s at the heart of the elements that would make a health system worthy of the term “perfect.” What’s he learned so far? And, how is he hoping to ultimately use this information? Could virtual reality serve us up our own uniquely “perfect” experience in the end? Tune in to find out!
