I feel like you should look at AAA games not just for inspiration, but also to break down design decisions and try and figure out *why* they made something act a certain way or do a certain thing.

I look at both AAA and indie to get inspired, and while yes, AAA games are made by a lot of people, I still get inspired by their mechanics that can realistically be simplified enough into something doable. I'm sure a lot of people worked on FEAR and Max Payne for an example but I still managed to put together a bullet time mechanic inspired by those games by myself.

I think yes for inspiration and with time and dedication I could totally do a small game inspired by a AAA game

You can definitely draw from those sources even if you can't match the scale. What if you took design concepts from Mass effect and turned it into a smaller scale Metroidvania or as more of a classic JRPG?

I see it as a matter of your mindset in the moment. On one hand it can be a major inspiration and when you look at its core gameplay loop it seems rather simple so you end up thinking you might be able to pull that off, but then on the other hand you realize exactly how much detail was put in and how many systems interact with each other in different ways and then the work just seems overwhelming and results in you feeling discouraged. You gotta find a way to push through that discouragement however if you ever want to reach your dreams of getting to that level though. For me, both of these come in alternating waves unless I'm distracted by playing the game itself. Right now I'm playing cyberpunk again and I find it an amazing game but when I look at its mechanics as a whole I realize how truly simple they might be and the complexity comes with how they interact instead.

I think you can look at triple a games and maybe try to make a smaller version of it if you really like that game. But realistically, most indie game devs work alone or in small teams, so to make a game as big as a triple a game it would take too much time and effort for an indie team

Yes look at larger games for ideas and inspiration but be realistic in what you can implement as a smaller dev

I present Battlebit as an argument and refuse to elaborate.

I am going to build a triple AAA by myself .

I don't feel the same inspiration from AAA games as I do when an original indie game releases (such as Disco Elysium). I kind of feel the same way I do about music, smaller indie artists producing their own beats as well as singing on the track are super inspirational, while people like Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars are less inspirational to me because I realize that the artist relies on teams of producers, writers and marketers to create "their" music.

Sure, why not? It's good to feel inspired. Just be realistic about scaling it down to your budget constraints. I wish I could pay voice actors or a writer like Drew Karpyshyn, or level designers or animators, but this is just not realistic on my level.
