How to fix code 12 and clean ignitor on Rheem Tankless water heater.

Before cleaning the ignitor, I would suggest turning off the power.
Then wait for the ignitor to cool down a little bit before going through the process in this video.

Thanks. I had 2 flame rods. One dirty one clean. Dollar bill did trick. I destroyed second gasket but someone left 2 in bottom of unit thankfully. I reordered spare gaskets.

Thanks for the video. This cleared up my code 12 issue. No more beeping when running the hot water. I really appreciate the dollar bill tip. Saved me from doing my normal aluminum foil trick like you do on the old waterheaters.

I cleaned my ignitors and it did not help - another code 12 after it tried to start. Sight window showed
only a small flame on the burners, then another code 12. Turned off gas supply and re-started unit. As unit tried to ignite, I turned the gas supply back on and it worked. Perhaps the regulator valve was stuck and turning the gas on when the unit wanted full flow, cleared it. Anyway something to try.

I cleaned it and still get code 12 beeps. The beeping starts overnight while no hot water is being used.

I cleaned mine once and a month later i had to replace them.
Ive never flushed unit yet. Guess i should look into doing that

Welp I did this. The flame rod did not look that bad. Nothing came off when I wiped it with a dollar bill. The water heater actually worked before doing this by unplugging the power and plugging it back in. I figured that was a temporary fix so got access to the flame rod a day later. Oh well, it’s working still.
