Old adage about bears is pretty much by color. "If it's Black - Stare or Fight Back, If it's Brown- Lie Down, If it's White - Good night". About black bears being, for the most part, more timid about people unless they get all hand fed and stuff, then they can be dangerous but don't run from any bear. They are freaking fast. Uphill and downhill so don't believe that BS. Brown Bear may or may not mess with you. Definitely not a critter to give a hard stare, cause they will eat your ass if they get pissed. Curl in a ball and hope you live if a brown attacks you. White- good night. Oh yeah. Don't hear about a lot of "I was mauled by a polar bear and survived" stories. Sure there's a few, but a big white will carry you off into the night for a family meal if so inclined. This kid was smart. Glad it was a happy story. Thanks for sharing!

Haha accurate observation about Huxley not being enthusiastic about the interview lol. He wanted to and then was like “meh, can I play with my buds now” lol. We did how we have conversations about wildlife safety and particularly bears because we live in British Columbia and there are bears around so the kids do need to have an idea of what to do. We’re really proud he remembered what to do (and was half frozen on fear too which probably helped). And our neighbour (visitor actually to the complex) is an example of someone who did such a selfless kind act and we are forever grateful for them. Too bad they omitted that part and grabbed two random clips from the interview lol.

The, "...in broad daylight..." bit. Like bears have a sense of criminality. This is why I gave up on TV entertainment.

Look this not a massive black bear, 4-5 year old medium size for British Columbia, I live there and have bears in my yard 5 months a year and there are way bigger bears here. There is one old boar (male bear) near Squamish BC who goes 600 pounds. I have shot many bears in my area most push 400 lbs and this one is maybe 250-300 lbs. Not massive just a medium BC black bear. There grizzlies that push 800 lbs, you don't want to mess with them.
