Filmmakers make their PASSION project for years because they have daily office job and only weekends are free or do other projects for clients to pay the bills. And usually those passion projects are no budget or micro budget or everything is done for the first time and you have to learn everything from scratch. If you have pro skills, worked on many projects, managed to get an experienced team and compiled a quarter of million dollars budget then there is no excuse for slow indie filmmaking.

Great video J. Totally true, no hard and fast rule. We're in the final stages of post on our indie movie Perfect Strangers, shot in 14 days with less than a 100k. An eye opener and showed me what can be achieve if the planning is right.

another thing I failed to take into account was marketing and promotion... this part of it is really never ending though, so I guess it made sense to leave it out. I have movies that are over 15 years old that I still market.

Kinda true... but you have to consider the demografic you asked to. Most young filmmakers will need at least 1.5years to make a movie out because a lot of it is learning process. Once mastered, it will be possible to be faster and still having a good product for sure. Very good craft is needed to make 2 films per year, that's the hard part!
