How to change default app to open a file type in Windows 10

Показать описание
Most of the programs used in Windows 10 are associated with particular file types and protocols. For example Windows plain text files .TXT are commonly associated with Microsoft Notepad. You can change the default app to open the .TXT file to Word or WordPad instead of Notepad. Similarly you can change the default app for any file type with a different one which is already installed on your computer or an app from Microsoft app store.

I looked everywhere for this and almost messed up my registries for accidentally deleting permissions for all users (had to use System Recovery). This was so simple and effective, thank you!

Thank you for saving me!! A program update completely overtook a certain file type, and this fixed it perfectly.

This did not work because I need to know how to undo the present choice, making a new choice does not undo the previous

Thanks for the video. This is just more proof of how incredibly stupid, unintuitive, and bloated windows is. They made this a 10-20 click process. In Mac all I have to do is right click on a file, properties, always open with this app. etc. 3 clicks and done. Windows 10-20 clicks. Of course if you haven't done the process for awhile you have to do a net search.

If I have a file type such as *.tsu and I DON'T want to have ANY default opener, but currently accidentally associated it with Adobe Acrobat Reader, how do I get RID of that association? Where there IS no default app trying to read *.tsu? Thanks in advance.

Is there a way to choose a program per individual file? If i have .iso(a) and .iso(b), is there a way to set a default program for .iso(a), while .iso(b) is still opened by the original default program?

Any idea how to do the opposite? I chose notepad at .sav file (savegame file) and I want to leave it without a notepad to open every .sav file extension. Thanks.

This does not work for wanting to change the default to a software that is on the computer, or anything that is not a Microsoft approved app. I have downloaded a pdf software and the options listed won't allow me to change it from open in browser. This video is too basic.
