Nocturnal Birds

While most of us are used to hearing birds singing during the day, we may be less likely to hear those who call out in the night. Listen to some examples of these hauntingly beautiful nighttime songs taken from the Lab's Macaulay Library sound collection. They may inspire you to walk outside in your slippers and pajamas to explore the sounds of the nocturnal world of birds.

here in C Florida we have Chuck Wills Widows (nightjars) Feb/ March to June calling all night. I have heard up to 7 at a time.

This made me try harder to identify a night bird I hear frequently here in New Hampshire. Definitely a Barred Owl call. That search also turned up Saw Whet owl call too, which is heard sometimes.

I hear this whistling sound once in a while at night, it sounds far away but it's like 1 long tone but the notes kind of vary like it gets deeper then high pitched. It's only about a couple seconds.. but not sure what it is. I live in the city in an area with a lot of apartments, although I live in Vancouver Canada so we have a ton of forest and stuff not more than a 15min drive away and lots of large parks. Can't figure out what it is, but it's definitely not a person.. it's weird bc it sounds kind of faint like its far away but yet so clear. Idk if that makes sense

I live in Oregon and I heard a strange bird tonight, sounded like a whistle-y nose then I heard it hoot almost like an owl once that I can be certain of. I'm so perplexed. I don't think it was a bug, yet I'm not sure if it was person, I don't think it was given the duration of the call.
