Thank you, Lynette, you are such a star to bring us all these birds and their sounds! So wonderful how you could capture it. So many times I notice a bird sound, but not knowing what causes it. Thank you for your contribution!

Thank you for these beautifully evocative night calls. I've been hearing Fiery-necked Nightjars calling in the early morning, but wasn't sure of their ID, so grateful ( KZN Midlands)!

Used this vid to ID a bird somewhere in the garden. Fiery-necked nightjar. Quite amazing at how identical 2 obviously different birds of the same species sound. Timing, pitch, all spot on. Wild.

After many sleepless nights and various theories in our neighborhood about this mysterious, almost mechanical sound - this was the video assisting us identifying Buff- Spotted Flufftail last week. Thanks!

I can't thank you enough for this wonderful video. We live in a very rural part of Cape Town near Somerset West, and have tons of interesting bird species. Lots of hawks, eagles and owls. But there was this one distinctive call that I couldn't identify, and it turns out it was the fiery-necked nightjar! I've never seen that bird before, but we hear it every now and again at dusk. Thank you! Finally my information itch has been scratched 😂

I grew up in a small town near the west coast called Hopefield. There was an old grass roof building across the street from my house where barn owls would nest. If I hadn't grown up with that eerie screeching sound, I would probably have been scared to death if I heard it

Thank you for bringing back my sweet childhood memories, but I used to run away from some of the bird calls at night 😂😂💕

Fiery-necked nightjar has been a sound of my nightmares since childhood, it has been so such a weird scary beautiful sound even now because I’ve never heard anyone talk about it🤣🤣🤣🤣always thought I’m imagining things.

We were taught that the call of the fiery nightjar was “good Lord deliver us”

This video was very helpful.. lastnight we heard some weird noise on our roof, and we suspected it was an owl sound. I have now confirmed it

Fiery necked nightjar is a damn pain in the ass. It just does not shut up all night. They drive us mad 😅
