Early 18th century. England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz) governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne’s ill health and mercurial temper. When a new servant Abigail (Emma Stone) arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing and Abigail sees a chance at a return to her aristocratic roots. As the politics of war become quite time consuming for Sarah, Abigail steps into the breach to fill in as the Queen’s companion. Their burgeoning friendship gives her a chance to fulfil her ambitions and she will not let woman, man, politics or rabbit stand in her way.

The grotesqueness of Olivia Colman's performance is also tinged with a very palpable sense of loneliness and sadness. That's what makes it memorable.

"Look at me! HOW DARE YOU?! Close your eyes!" easily my "favourite" 😉 movie line of the year.

"Are you going to CRY? REALLY?" The disdain in her tone, WOW!

That scene alone deserves an Oscar. She encapsulated the emotions of insecurities and mental devastation. Bravo!

"I'm ready for the Russian ambassador...", she sounded so positive then until...

I love the way she look like she's empersonating a child. Thats literally how any child act when their mother are cruel to them, the facial expressions, the fact that she poured her anger onto someone instead of her own "mother" at the end...

I'm obsessed with the way she says "bad-juh"

Am I the only one who thinks Olivia Coleman would kill it as the queen of hearts in Alice in wonderland.

All three actresses in this film were at the top of their game.

So glad Olivia Coleman is getting more and more work the past few years. Been a huge fan of hers since Peep Show, never could have imagined she'd be starring in Oscar calibre films like this

This is not a comedy even though it has its funny moments. It’s a very depressing film and Coleman is brilliant in it

Don't be wrong, Colman's performance is not only the best performance of the year, is one of the greatest in the history of cinema. Pure display of emotions. Bravo.

Omg I felt so bad for her! I think almost everyone has experienced that feeling at least once when you try something new or do something you're really proud of and a friend or supposed friend completely diminishes it or makes fun of you for it. It hurts in your chest and you really do feel like crying right then and there. Great acting from Colman here.
