Early 18th century. England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz) governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne’s ill health and mercurial temper. When a new servant Abigail (Emma Stone) arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing and Abigail sees a chance at a return to her aristocratic roots. As the politics of war become quite time consuming for Sarah, Abigail steps into the breach to fill in as the Queen’s companion. Their burgeoning friendship gives her a chance to fulfil her ambitions and she will not let woman, man, politics or rabbit stand in her way.

0:29 I just burst out laughing every time I hear that part. The subtext of "keep me out of this" is hilarious.

I only watched this a few hours ago but I'm prepared to say that this is one of the best films of 2019. The complicated relationships, the intrigue, the secret desires. Mon Dieu!

Jesus Christ. These 3 should be nominated for best actress. Maybe Emma Stone in the supporting role but Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz would go neck and neck in the leading role.

I get she’s worried and cares about the queen. But to drink hot chocolate in front of your friend who can’t have it and be so cruel and patronizing and mocking about it is awful.

The Stuart dynasty is quite underrated in historical cinematography compared to the tudors, Hanover and occasionally Plantagenets. Much Focus on the Stuart’s usually involves Mary of Scots and her rivalry with Elizabeth I and possibly the restoration of the monarchy which I can only recall watching in the series where Rufus Sewell was the leading role as Charles II. This is the first film that Perhaps focuses solely on Queen Anne the last Stuart. I have only seen her in the 1970s series “the first Churchills” and she was still a background character.

love it and one of the best scenes but no one would offer hot chocolate to someone else before the queen. Queen always goes first.

Is this not the perfect triad? It's the perfect triad. And Rachel Weisz, think you found your niche ;)

Just watched this film today and holy fuck. It’s a comedic Barry Lyndon with a female-led cast. Just not as long. Equally as brilliant.

I wouldn't mind throwing up after drinking hot chocolate if Emma Stone would come and mop it up.

Out of curiosity, if anybody from the UK is reading this could you please tell me what kind of pot that was that she served a hot chocolate in and where can I find one. Long story short I like most people enjoy hot chocolate during the winter but I like to keep it In something so I can drink it gradually. I wouldn’t dream of putting it in a teapot because cleanup is a nightmare where Tea rinses out with perfect ease. I know I can always put it in a thermos but I’m looking for something more proper and less likely to spill. So if anyone knows I would be very much obliged.

What noise Sarah was. Winston Churchill inherited from Sara ‘s daughter: the intelligence of Lord Churchill and storm character of Sarah.

I leave the same analyses for all of you, respect to Diane, because Sarah ‘s daughter Anne, married a lord which last name was Spencer.
