LIVE: Menendez Brothers Appears in Court For The First Time in 28 Years for Pre-Trial in LA | CNBC TV18
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - A hearing is scheduled for Nov. 25 in Los Angeles Superior Court on whether to overturn the conviction of the Menendez brothers who were sentenced to life in prison for the 1989 shotgun murders of their parents in Beverly Hills.
Almost 30 years after they were sentenced to life in prison for murdering their parents, Lyle and Erik Menendez are set to appear in court Monday, the latest step in their bid for release after the Los Angeles County District Attorney recommended they be resentenced.
The brothers, currently incarcerated in California, are expected to appear virtually for the status hearing, scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. local time, but Judge Michael Jesic has the discretion to require them to appear in person.
The hearing could help determine if a planned resentencing hearing next month remains on the schedule or if it will be delayed as a new DA is set to be sworn in.
The two men were last seen in public in 1996 during the second trial for the murder of their parents. After their first trial ended with two deadlocked juries, they were found guilty in a second trial and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The judge has imposed strict restrictions on the courtroom for Monday’s hearing: No cameras are allowed in court and all cell phones will be put in sealed bags.
Sixteen seats in the court will be offered to the public via lottery in the hours before the hearing, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Superior Court.

What they did to their parents was horrible. What their parents did to them was also horrible. They’ve been in prison over 30 years. I think they should be up for parole.

Why is this such big news? They killed them, went on a spending spree, then cried abuse when caught. I'm not saying it didnt happen but there is more going on in this world to worry about than if they can get out. Does anyone truly think they have served enough time? And why did they truly kill their mother at the same time?

They murdered their parents in cold blood point blank. I don’t care what someone is going through that doesn’t give them the right to kill anyone. They were punished for a reason and while what they went through wasn’t ok they could have told someone. Should they have had the chance to go up for parole yes that I believe, but don’t just let them out because you think they shouldn’t be in there.
