How lucky are those of you that have watched this lesson and are just beginning your golf. You have no idea just how valuable this information is to your Golfing weekends. Just an unbelievable lesson...and you can see the effort, thought, and experience of years of knowledge on full display. Thank you.

Mike,
I played with an across the line backswing. I’m 78 years old now. As I’ve gotten older and my backswing has gotten shorter it’s become harder and harder to hit the ball flush with my irons. I watched your video and your explanation of a laid off position uses momentum to bring the club head into the ball. When I tried a pitch shot in my front yard I had an “ah ha” moment. I said to myself it can’t be that easy. Today I went to the driving range. I haven’t hit so many crisp ‘ball first’ shots in a long time. Tomorrow I play 18. I can hardly wait. Anybody that lacks a repeatable golf swing should try this method. I started playing golf when I was 35. All I ever wanted to do is to understand a way to be able to hit ‘golf shots’ consistently. Thank you for this insight.

That's why this guy is amazing...he doesnt preach "you have to swing this way"...he gives a lot of cause and effect things for different natural swing patterns...cant even put into words how helpful this is

Malaska is a great coach makes concepts easy to understand nor does he try to stick you into a box.

I've always had more of a flat swing, so once I found the Malaska move toward the downswing, I lost my frustrating hook and found a great power fade. Works for me. Thanks Mike.

What an amazing video!!! Now I understand how to increase momentum! I've been using Mike's pivot points ideas and the results have been spectacular! In two to three weeks I've eliminated 10 strokes in my scores and have a consistency and a belief in my bail striking that I could never previously achieve. Man oh man, thanks a ton Mike!!'

This guy is the best.. I love how he relates golf to other sports like baseball, tennis and hockey. He is a very very good teacher.

My while golfing life I've been drilled to get inline. while working with Mikes hands down club out idea last year i found that if i kept the club in line i got to steep on the downswing and the clubhead would work out to in through the ball. i had a slight fade just as Mike suggests however the push fade was always a worry. eventually through trial and error i found a laid off position removed this problem. Its nice to now see the why and have my conclusions validated.

Mike- I tried hitting laid off the other day, and so much easier for me to hit consistently. Thanks for sharing this.

Some where between laid off and on plane or on line. Will be most helpful, have some video work to do to see where I am actually at. Great explanation of the 3. Thanks Mike

Very helpful to explain why the laid off position lends itself to the Malaska Move.

Question : how to initiate the swing to be "laid off" at the top of the backswing ? Many many thanks !

In “Golf My Way” at the 45:04 mark, Jack goes across the line. Very important to cross the line, he says, pointing the club right of the target at the top. He was a pretty good golfer.

I always liked laid off as well. I remember Johnny Miller saying laid off isn't bad and actually in theory can be better and the internet gnomes ripped him for days. It gets the club in a good spot and is a good spot to be. When I played my best, I was laid off and hardly had a bad day. When I tried to get it more online, problems arose. Great vid as always Mike.

Firstly, Golf is hard! Golf Instruction even harder, as everybody feels and reacts differently. Personally, I find if I am laid off at the top of the swing (below plane), I can rotate through with a shallow plane ONLY if i feel I have "dead" hands. If my hands get active (they always want to hit the ball), then they react to the weight of the clubhead being behind or below the hands and pull or "tip" the clubhead over the top. I start below plane in P4 and get steeper by P5. I find, for me, If I am more neutral (actually feels like across the line for me), then as I start my transition with my hips, the club drops below plane and I can then approach ball from inside. In transition, the lower body rotation and weight of the clubhead drops the club below plane, from where shallowing is natural and I can swing freely. But I'm only HC11, so maybe I am all wrong 🙂
