Musashi and Kojiro were such an interesting and diametrically opposed pair to exist and interact at the same point in history

Also a quote from him says remember if you are to win any fight he must fight like you are already dead

It's like with Eddie Van Halen, he didn't invent two hand tapping but he sure made it popular 😂

I heard at one point, that Musashi was inspired by the Rapier and dagger fighting style. Used by Europeans encountered in Japan. No idea if it's true though.

I kinda need both hands for my katana. I've seen duel wielding a few times but id prefer more control and strengh with a single sword

Was it actually two katana or as you have there, one katana and a wakazashi?

Musashi is to Sword Fighting, what Tom Brady is the Quarterbacking.

There's probably no documentation because everyone who witnessed him pull out the second katana got sliced

Miyamoto Musashi was actually the best known Ronin of all time, a samurai warrior without a master. He wrote the Book of 5 Rings.

He mastered using a wooden boken and smashing rivals on the head with it.

Katori Shinto Ryu, Yagyu Shinkage Ryu and many other schools also teach fighting with two swords, and the Katori Shinto Ryu happens to be one of the oldest schools still operating today.

On duels, my understanding from reading a translation of the Book of Five Rings a long time ago was that katana and wakizashi was for fighting multiple opponents, allowing you to parry and threaten multiple directions. So in a pre-arranged duel against one person, it made more sense to focus the full power honed from duel katana training for katana+wakizashi fighting, into a single katana and overpower them
Basically, two katana to train strength, katana and wakizashi for general combat, single katana as a minmaxed strategy, to use a gaming term, for a very specific kind of fight with hard rules that keep the disadvantages from being relevant

Im surpirsed people care more about him using two swords rather than using a wooden plank to defeat his final enemy

Some day I would love to visit your country, and learn everything about Japan culture, I do love learning about that stuff and other cultures and trying the authentic foods

Some Spanish rapier masters assured that if you applied their technique/style with the rapier you didn't need a secondary weapon. But still they taught the use of the dagger as well.
What a coincidence 😮 Maybe they didn't want their students to rely too much on 2 weapons and get their fundamentals right on a single one.

Open on all 8 sides. It is likely that he adapted techniques from his father's jutte style.

As someone who has studied martial arts for 17 years, I will confirm that using the dual swords style is something very difficult to get used to. My advice to someone who is eager to learn this technique is they should understand music. When you get a feel for the rhythm, this will help you move your swords in space without them crashing into each other as often. As musashi says, you should train and study very often. Mastery cannot come from the idle life
