After more than 1,000 arrests following riots across England and Northern Ireland, the first sentences are being handed down. With the help of a criminal barrister, we look at footage of the offences to examine why these charges were brought. And ask if there's room for the offenders a prison system 'at capacity'.

Strange how the prisons suddenly went from being “too full” to “every single rioter will be put in them”.

I did see today a guy having pervert photos was let off with no prison sentence and yet these people are going to jail. This is utterly bonkers

Weren't all the prisons too "full" for people who had committed serious crimes against children?

Two tier policing followed by two tier "justice".

6 August 'The mother of Gordon Gault, 14, who was killed in a machete attack faces fresh agony today after being told one of his killers will be released just six months into his jail term due to prison overcrowding.'

Young people who haven’t caused any serious harm should be given community service, it could actually improve their relationship to the community, jail is likely to pull people further into crime. They’re being used as scapegoats .

The media don't seem to use the word murder very often

So they're letting people out of prison early to put a woman in for 20 months for pushing a bin 😂

See minute 6.50: "violence against women would not be eligible for early release" Really? So, violence against men is less bad? What type of nonesense is that? I would argue that it depends on the nature and frequency of the violence, not the person against whom it was committed? Dangerous double standards. Are people still equal in the eyes of the law

Our establishment appears to be at war with its own people. Labour used to be the party of the British working class. It has now moved so far away from that, that a northern, working class, ex coal miner and trade union rep is now classed as ‘far right’ - Lee Anderson.

20 months for someone pushing a wheelie bin towards riot police... absurd

Typical divide and conquer tactics and channel 4 are playing their part perfectly.

There's plenty of room because the real criminals are being sent home.
