Its supposed to withstand the launch of starship, it can definitely take on winds, water is a much much bigger problem

They knew where they build this thing - Would you think they did not took hurricanes into account?

Its like you where building a theme park in Orlando without planning for hurricanes.

Very good possibility that hurricane Beryl will make a direct5 hit on SpaceX Starbase. That would cause significant damage.

I have an intrusive thought idea that, SpaceX should definitely utilise floods as means to... minimise using the water suppression system

That’s why the buildings have an exoskeleton, along with room inside.
Thanks for the short Felix.

Two easy solutions. A big wall like a fort or underground as in James Bond films. But neither is really necessary. Financially, it’s better to have good insurance/cash reserves and rebuild in the unlikely event of a surge/tsunami

Buy some backup generators and sump pumps…

The last place you want to be in a hurricane is 450 feet in the air. Wind speeds are 50-75% stronger than at ground level.

Starship’s launch has more of a punch than most of the storms it will face.

I'm sure it took the smartest people on the internets to wonder about a hurricane in a hurricane zone that none of the people in spacex were smart enough to ever consider as a problem. Good thing we have people on the internet to ask these questions

I don’t think the wind will be a major problem but the surge that precedes a hurricane may. StarBase isn’t that much above sea level. Also the sand will get into everything. Would like to hear from those that actually lived through a hurricane of what they experienced.

If something like the Galveston hurricane hits it, all bets are off. Thats pretty unlikely tho

Damage caused by flooding has a great deal to with whether or not it is salt ocean water swelling in or freshwater having trouble draining out

Guys remember artemis 1?
Yeah the first sls launch ?

It was hut by TWO huricanes between augast 31st and nov 15th. Which caused delays. The pad was fine.

I think starbase could survivie a minor huricane (upto 130 mph maybe ?)

They should deploy HESCO BASTION dirt walls. They can be installed in some hours and block the wind all around the base

SpaceX vs. Planetary Weather? My money's on SpaceX.

I trust their civil engineers and local building codes to handle the storm and flood concerns.

Those facilities are designed for up to category 4 storms. It's about impossible to build like that for category 5.

Starship is designed to launch in a hurricane. Godspeed Starship.
