I’m so glad I found this video. I’ll be graduating with my BSN this fall 2020. I can tell you I felt isolated at first and not from nursing school but from clinical the nurses would make this face as if I didn’t deserve to be there. But it inspires me because I’m stepping on their toes 🤷🏾‍♂️🔥🔥🔥

Lpn student here and we definitely need more male nurses! It's an amazing career that I feel is very slept on with a stigma to it. You would be surprised how many people think nursing only pays 10k a year so they went for med. There's a ton of misinformation regarding nursing. There's huge flexibility, a variety of specialties, alot of critical thinking and science, patient interaction, you can go for NP or CRNA. Travel nursing! Great pay! It astounds me that there aren't more male nurses.

I'm a white male nurse, work in the ER. I've discovered personally over the years most nurses don't see eachother differently regarding race or sex, we just see eachother as nurses, with a reputation, either as more competent or less. I get asked all the time what it's like working with mostly women and it's baffling to realize I don't even think about it. When we are in the thick of it I know you know it doesn't matter what the other person looks like, its all about charachter, competence, and if you work well on a team. I think that's what makes our team some of the best among all professions. So I'm glad to see you putting this out there because its definitely 100% accurate in my opinion. We need more males to keep opening up to this profession and what it is we actually do.

Going to be a black male nurse practitioner in pediatrics and this video make me feel a lil mo comfortable cause you know it’s rare to see it real talk. However, my goal is to persuade others in particular black males to get in the field!

Man I can't even tell you how happy I am that I came across this video as I'm getting ready to start nursing school in 6 days. I've been having anxiety about how I'll be perceived by patients and staff. But seeing you with an afrocentric hairstyle like me, talk about your positive experiences as a Black male nurse really calms the nerves and anxiety I've been feeling. Thank you.

We are less than 1% in health care but I live in North Carolina I have experienced a lot of discrimination and bullying as a darker Africa American nurse. My hospital is primarily caucasian

Awesome video my brother! I am a black CNA and I have received nothing but positive feedback. I love being able to break the stereotype of what a black man is! I am currently taking pre nursing and I am excited for the future.

Encourage all black males into nursing not just one group. Cultural sensitive nursing does matter. Keep up the good work. Bravo!

I'm a black male student nurse and CNA. I'm mixed, but that doesn't change the way people see me-black. In my experience it's been extremely positive. If anything my clients are surprised at first, but thankful to have me. Especially men of minority groups, not even just black men. They seem to really like having someone who can relate to their point of view/situation. Statistically the profession is caucasian women, and I'm sure that can be uncomfortable for some but it's just a reality. Once you get past that you realize we're all just human at the end of the day and character has a much bigger role than race. I might get flack for this, but there really is a difference between male and female nurses. It's a good things too. We both naturally have different strengths, and thought processes. Diversity is growing in nursing and it's elevating the profession. Keep up the great content. You have a new subscriber!

In my local hospital (South Africa) we have a black male sister on the surgical ward who almost always had his picture up for 'Staff Member of the Month'. Also a young black phlebotomist in the laboratory with the gentlest hands. - very popular with those of us who needed daily blood checks. My brother in law is Indian (Asian) and is a sister. If race or gender bothers a patient in hospital, I'd say they're not sick enough to appreciate that pair of brown male hands that help ease their pain.

I’m a black male nurse. We different! I feel that boss, if you think people are going to be racist toward you it’s going to be reality.

I’ve had one experience of racial scrutiny and honestly being the bigger person and staying professional is much more rewarding than being upset or retaliation and I just tend to not even think about race when I take care of patients and interact with other members of the healthcare team.

Most members of the healthcare team judge by knowledge and intelligence not by your skin, I will say as a black male nurse they may expect you to be subpar because of the stigma of black men, so that’s why you gotta cross your t’s and dot your i’s and outshine em! ✊🏾💪🏾. Let’s goooo

It’s good to see more Brothers in nursing. I have been a nurse for 23 years. It was always hard in the beginning to not see representation. It has change considerably over the years.
