It's typically not a surprise when large projects come in behind schedule and over budget. However, the 'new' modified Boeing 747-8i Air Force One aircraft (designated VC-25Bs) takes this trend to another level. Responsible for seeing the project to completion for the United States Air Force (USAF), Boeing recently reported further losses on this fixed-cost contract.

I love fixed cost contracts. Serves Boeing right for years of overcharging the government on their military contracts.

Ironic that it would’ve been cheaper to build two new AF1s from scratch instead of converting two civilian white tails.

+70 years of Boeing lobby in defense- weapons, sales, billions in profits. Don't worry 😌😉

The profits over safety really backfired.

I hope the classic paint scheme remains.

With the amount of favors the US Government has done for Boeing (saving Boeing billions throughout their existence) Boeing should shut their mouths and deliver the aircraft at whatever the cost and loss to

The cost to renovate is significantly higher than the cost to build. Boeing should never have agreed to this fixed prince contract.

When the new Air Force 1 is launched, I call dibs on the old 1.

They write it off in taxes. I expect they may have already written some of it off.

Why are they so expensive? What technology and interiors are going into them to make them that expensive?

The best news is the fuselage is saved with two turbofans that is much cheaper to operate do not know cost of new wings but logic tells me the plane is not dead and need to but back in flying with two turbofans

Sounds like modern Boeing to me. Probably better to hold off now, since there are lots of doors that could fly off.

I think Boeing should have suppliers within the American borders... Stretching to other countries has cost Boeing dearly...

These jets are so expensive because of the electronic warfare capabilities that are built into the airplane. They are probably the F-35 block 4 upgrades.
