Try not to cry while watching Bluey challenge level 1, 000: Don't cry while watching the episode "Dragon"

When I was a kid, I loved drawing butterflies using sharp angles. It was more abstract, and I kinda knew that, but it also made them look unique and pop off the page. One day, we had a substitute teacher who had us all draw as busy work. I made a field full of butterflies, but didn't put my name on it. I really felt like the work spoke for itself with its beauty.

This teacher held up my picture for the whole class to see and laughed, specifically at my butterflies. She got the whole class to join in.

It took my a long time to get over that. Now, I make a point to sharp angles for my butterflies. I still think they're pretty and that lady was a jerk.

I think I'm going to try to learn more about drawing. It would be fun.

Its episodes like this that reinforces the fact that Chilli is probably, if not DEFINITELY, the most tragic character in the show. The fact that she is going through so much with her family yet is doing her best to put a smile on her kids' and husband's faces, as well as everyone else around her, really says a lot about how much of a role model she is to mothers EVERYWHERE.

Bandit is my favorite character of the show but Chilli might be the best in terms of depth and reliability to the audience, both young and old.

I know it's said a lot, but this show really deserves to be praised for giving the parents ACTUAL character and depth. They let the parents feel like and behave like real people, who can struggle and feel emotions just like their children!

It's wonderful, and really helps the audience connect to them a lot better <3

First and most important: I'm so sorry for your loss. Second as someone who's been drawing since Bluey's age, I adore this episode because it really resonates with me as an artist as I've had many periods of doubting if I'm good enough. Still, I kept moving forward and after putting my art out into the world for the first time and gaining a following I never thought I'd have on social media, I now have a lot more confidence in my work and never wanna stop drawing.

As an artist, I LOVE this episode. It states everything I believe about artistic ability and encouragement.

I just had a brainstorm watching Bluey with the kid I'm babysitting!
We watched "Bumpy and The Wise Old Wolfhound" and when Barnicus AKA Bluey starts talking about how "being sick is just a part of life" and how "everyone gets sick sometimes" we see Chili getting teary-eyed as her and Bingo watch on the tablet.
What if Chili's mom got diagnosed with a terminal illness? And that's why she's no longer with us? It would make so much sense

Something I never really realized until looking through your videos is how often the parents get on the same level as the kids. They take a knee to when talking and comforting the kids.

This is a tiny detail, but I really like how in the flashback it looks like chili's drawing on old printer paper-- the kind with the holes!

The episode also somewhat connects to Perfect, where Bluey has a similar struggle about her art. And my best guess about artists and their self doubts is, for once survivorship bias, as we usually ever only see an artists best works and hardly see the struggle behind them. And second, with greater understanding of something, come greater doubts. Like someone great at drawing understands what they could improve and such on a higher level than the layman, for whom it simply looks amazing. With this other thing where experts in a field struggle to view things not through the lens of their expertise, so they have a hard time realising, how these things look for a layman in that field, which is usually also the vast majority of people. So in a cruel twist of fate, it's hard for people to even realise how good they are, without outside feedback, even though knowing your worth by yourself is the better way to go about these things.

I love how the episode brings up how folks tend to have one thing they love to draw A LOT. Like the cars and horses. Every artist latches onto something and it almost becomes a comfort doodle in a way.

Onesies and grandad aren't the only episodes that are more tragic in hindsight with Dragon in mind: it's likely the special people speech in camping and the sun dialogue in sleepytime are from Chilli's mum, and Chilli's behaviour and actions in Perfect make even more sense knowing how her mother handled a similar situation when her daughter had doubts about her art skills.

Normal people: wow such a nice kids show

People who watched Bluey: no, its not a show, its a way of life.

I love how they reinforce chilli liking she-ra when she draws her sword and the horse flies away.

As an artist who also lost my mother, I'm so sorry for your loss. And also, I agree. This episode was hard to watch while keeping my eyes dry. But I think that's why I love media that makes me sad like this, though. It's cathartic. It's a relieving way to release these emotions, without doing so seemingly randomly.

Being an Australian, especially a Brisbane based Australian (the city where the show is set) it's so nice to have something from our country and so built around our way of life that is so appreciated by the rest of the world.

Here are four things that I liked and learnt about "Dragon":

One, how everyone in the family has their own different and unique art styles like Bluey = interesting and stylish Bingo = Chaotic and exciting, Bandit = much more like of a simple drawing, Chilli = best and awesome art style

Two, Dragon is much more than just being an episode. It shows that sometimes drawing art can be an escape from reality.

Three, the fact that what Chilli's Mum had taught her motivates Chilli to do the same to Bluey. This scene kinda reminds of my mum who is also an amazing drawer. Besides, I am really sorry for your loss but I bet you had some memorable moments with you mum when you were younger.

So, that is it from me! Have a nice day!

I'm so glad you covered this episode. I think struggling with keeping motivation to draw is such a common experience it makes the episode so applicable. And dealing with the death of chili's mum makes the episode so emotional and sweet. It's amazing well done and deserves to be highlighted, and there's no one who can do it better then you

As someone who lost their mom to cancer years ago, hearing Chili say, "Yeah, she was, " in reference to her own mom, makes me tear up every time.
It wasn't sudden, it was a three year battle, but I still miss her, even now, and especially around this time of year.
